Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

DJJ is seeking a Senior Research Analyst. This position will coordinate and lead research and program evaluation projects to analyze data concerning juvenile justice policies and programs. These efforts will allow DJJ to make evidence-based decisions and provide effective programs and opportunities for delinquent youth to help them develop into responsible and productive citizens.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and complete qualitative and quantitative research and evaluation methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, apply statistical analysis techniques, and visualize data.
  • Working knowledge of statistical programs (such as R, SPSS, or Stata) to manipulate data and perform analysis.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, including communicating findings tailored to a non-research audience.
  • Working skills in word processing, presentation, data visualization, and publishing software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and lead projects.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to apply analytical skills and problem-solving techniques in order to make recommendations and potential strategy changes.

Additional Considerations

  • Extensive experience or course work in research methods and statistics in the fields of social sciences, public or business administration, planning or related field.
  • Significant experience with coordinating and conducting policy research and analysis, sophisticated statistical research, juvenile justice, OR any other combination of training and experience.
