Description

Grand Island Clinic is looking for a Radiology Technician who can support our current Mammography techs. Mammography would be on a "backup" schedule, covering days our other techs are unable, and primarily in our X-ray department. 

Job Summary:

As a Radiology Technician with Grand Island Clinic, you will be responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic imaging procedures, including X-rays, to assist physicians in patient diagnosis and treatment. This role requires a commitment to patient safety, comfort, and care while adhering to established radiologic safety protocols. In addition to routine radiographic duties, you will serve as a secondary/backup Mammography Technician for the Grand Island Imaging Center, requiring mammography certification or a willingness to obtain certification within six months of hire. This position involves direct patient interaction, attention to detail, and collaboration with healthcare professionals to deliver excellent patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare patients for radiologic exams by explaining procedures and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Perform diagnostic radiographic imaging procedures such as X-rays, ensuring high-quality images for accurate interpretation.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients, staff, and self.
  • Accurately position patients and equipment to capture images as prescribed by physicians.
  • Review and evaluate developed images for quality, clarity, and accuracy.
  • Input and maintain patient data in the clinic's electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards related to radiologic practices and patient safety.
  • Maintain imaging equipment and report any malfunctions or required maintenance.
  • Serve as a backup Mammography Technician for the Grand Island Imaging Center, performing mammograms as needed.
  • Complete required continuing education to maintain licensure and certification, particularly in mammography.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Essential Job Functions for Mammography:

  • Perform screening and diagnostic mammograms in accordance with physician orders and mammography best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and all other regulatory guidelines.
  • Explain mammography procedures to patients and ensure their comfort during the exam.
  • Monitor images for quality control, ensuring proper positioning, exposure, and clarity for accurate diagnosis.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and mammography documentation for regulatory compliance and quality assurance audits.
  • Assist in coordinating mammography appointments and scheduling patients for screenings and follow-up exams.
  • Ensure regular maintenance and quality control testing of mammography equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Communicate findings and concerns to the primary radiologist or referring physician as needed.
  • Educate patients on the importance of routine mammograms and provide resources for breast health as needed.
  • Routinely fills in for the primary Mammography technician.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in operating radiographic and other diagnostic imaging equipment.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, radiographic positioning, and image quality standards.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety practices and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients, healthcare staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments in a clinical setting.
  • Basic proficiency in computer systems and EHR software.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols.
  • Adaptability to function in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of patient care.

Qualifications

Education And Experience Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or certificate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification required.
  • Mammography certification, or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire, is preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of radiologic imaging experience preferred, but recent graduates will be considered.
  • CPR/BLS certification is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and assisting patients with positioning.
  • Ability to lift and move patients as necessary, up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to handle imaging equipment and operate computers.
  • Exposure to radiation and infectious diseases, with necessary precautions taken.
