This is a full-time fixed term position through to August 2026 with salary in the range $93,491 - $100,296 (HEW 6), plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%.

About This Opportunity

The Outreach & Engagement Officer will assist in promoting The University of Queensland as the first-choice university for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. This role will contribute to ATSISU's key objectives of increasing recruitment, retention, academic performance, and graduation rates by coordinating a variety of activities, events, and programs.

Key Responsibilities Will Include:

Program Development and Implementation

  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of outreach and engagement programs, events, and activities. These initiatives are designed to raise awareness of higher education opportunities, promote their value, and build student self-confidence for tertiary study.

Student and Stakeholder Advising

  • Provide expert advice to prospective students, parents/guardians, and schools on university pathways. This includes showcasing university campuses, programs, and events to the wider community.

Community Engagement and Resource Creation

  • Actively participate in the implementation of engagement events and activities. You will also assist with the design and coordination of community engagement resources and materials.

Relationship Building

  • Maintain and build positive relationships with key stakeholders, schools, and the community to support the team's outreach and engagement goals.

About You

The University of Queensland considers that being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991(Qld) and the filling of this position constitute a special/equal opportunity measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth). 

The position is therefore only open to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. 

  • Degree/qualifications with at least three years of relevant experience in a program officer or student services role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of secondary and tertiary education systems, with a particular understanding of the barriers and challenges that influence Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' aspirations for tertiary study.
  • Proven ability to deliver programs and coordinate events and activities. You will also be responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • You must hold an open driver's license as the role involves logistical coordination.
  • You must have a Blue Card or the ability to attain one ensuring compliance with relevant regulations for working with young people.

You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment, and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
