The Role

Join Oroton’s Apparel Design team as our next Design Assistant - Apparel, and play a vital role in bringing our collections to life. You’ll support the full design process from technical sketching and trim sourcing to sample management and range board creation. Collaborate closely with our Design, Production, Merchandise, Marketing, and Ecommerce teams to ensure every detail reflects Oroton’s signature quality and style. Based in Melbourne, you’ll also connect with international suppliers, contributing to the success of our premium apparel ranges.

This is a permanent, full-time position based in our Abbotsford Design Studio in Melbourne.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Assist the Apparel Design team across all categories throughout the design process
• Create and update technical sketches using Adobe Illustrator
• Prepare and maintain range boards and distribute to relevant teams
• Source trims following designer briefs and maintain accurate BOMs
• Manage samples by tracking, sending, and organising
• Write ‘Features and Benefits’ copy for the apparel range
• Support presentation preparation and ensure the design workspace is organised
• Liaise with external suppliers and coordinate with internal teams to meet business objectives
• Maintain accurate records with strong attention to detail, particularly in Excel

What We Are Looking For:

• Tertiary qualification in fashion, design, graphics, or a related creative field
• 1-2 years hands-on experience in a similar role within a fashion retail business
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Experience managing high workloads and meeting strict deadlines
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data and information management
• Excellent time management and problem-solving skills
• A proactive, solution-focused mindset with the ability to work collaboratively across teams
