Job Title: Manager, Cloud Automation and DevOps

Reports To: Unit Head, Cloud Engineering
JOB PURPOSE
The Manager, Cloud Automation & DevOps is responsible for building and leading the Cloud automation and DevOps within the Cloud Engineering team. The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and secure cloud infrastructure, optimizing cloud-based solutions, and automating cloud operations to enhance agility and efficiency. This position ensures seamless integration of development and operational processes, enforces best practices in CI/CD pipelines, and drives innovation through automation.
The role also includes responsibility for maintaining cloud security, performance optimization, and ensuring compliance with cloud governance policies. The incumbent will collaborate with development teams, enterprise architects, and security engineers to deliver high-performing, resilient, and cost-efficient cloud environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Cloud Automation & DevOps Strategy
• Develop and implement cloud automation strategies to streamline cloud infrastructure provisioning, management, and scaling.
• Lead the design and optimization of CI/CD pipelines to accelerate software delivery and deployment processes.
• Ensure infrastructure as code (IaC) best practices using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
• Automate cloud security compliance, logging, and monitoring solutions to maintain a secure cloud environment.
• Introduce auto-scaling, self-healing mechanisms, and automated failover strategies for high availability.
• Ensure the security of cloud infrastructure through automation and security best practices.
Cloud Engineering & Governance
• Design, implement, and manage cloud-based infrastructure solutions across public and hybrid cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, OCI).
• Optimize cloud resource utilization and cost management while ensuring high system availability and performance.
• Develop and enforce security best practices for cloud-based applications, infrastructure, and data protection.
• Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning for cloud-hosted environments.
• Ensure compliance with cloud governance policies and security frameworks.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
• Work closely with development, security, and infrastructure teams to integrate DevOps best practices across the organization.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers in cloud automation and DevOps practices.
• Collaborate with third-party vendors and cloud providers to evaluate and implement innovative cloud solutions.
• Facilitate communication between engineering, security, and compliance teams to ensure alignment with organizational policies.
Monitoring, Performance, & Incident Management
• Implement and maintain real-time monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for cloud environments.
• Optimize incident response processes to improve system resilience and reliability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure issues to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
• Maintain and update documentation for cloud architecture, automation scripts, and operational procedures.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Cloud Automation & DevOps Implementation
• CI/CD Pipeline Efficiency: Reduction in deployment time and manual intervention.
• Infrastructure as Code Adoption: Percentage of infrastructure provisioned via automated scripts.
• Automation Success Rate: Number of manual processes eliminated through automation.
Cloud Engineering & Governance
• Cloud Cost Optimization: Reduction in cloud spend through automation and resource management.
• Security Compliance: Adherence to security standards and frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, etc.).
• Cloud Availability: Minimum uptime of 99.9% for critical services.
• Disaster Recovery Readiness: Measured effectiveness of cloud disaster recovery plans (RTO/RPO compliance).
Performance & Incident Management
• Incident Resolution Time: Average time to troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure issues.
• System Performance Monitoring: Number of proactive issue detections and mitigations before impact.
• Documentation Accuracy & Completeness: Percentage of up-to-date documentation for cloud environments.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
• Cross-Functional Alignment: Number of successful integrations between DevOps, security, and development teams.
• Vendor SLA Compliance: Percentage of cloud service providers meeting contractual SLAs.
• Training & Mentorship Impact: Number of team members trained in automation and DevOps best practices.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field from an accredited institution.
• Professional certifications in AWS, Azure, OCI, Kubernetes, Terraform, or DevOps-related fields (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator).
Experience
• 7+ years of experience in IT, with a minimum of 5years in a senior DevOps, SRE or Cloud Automation role.
• Proven expertise in CI/CD pipeline management, cloud automation, and infrastructure as code (IaC).
• Strong knowledge of container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift).
• Hands-on experience with DevSecOps practices, integrating security controls into CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with cloud networking, storage, and disaster recovery planning.
Skills & Competencies
• Proficiency in scripting & automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible).
• Deep understanding of cloud services (AWS, Azure, OCI) and containerized environments.
• Expertise in cloud security, IAM, and compliance frameworks.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot cloud infrastructure issues.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
