Position Summary/Department Summary:
The mission of the Department of Pharmacy is to provide excellent and innovative pharmaceutical care to patients through safe and collaborative practices, incorporating education, research, and technology. We are currently searching for a 40-hour clinical pharmacist to focus on providing care to our patients within the cancer and blood disorder center.
The Boston Children's/Dana Farber Cancer and Blood Disorder Center offers an unrivaled breadth of treatment options for children and young adults with cancer and blood disorders — from standard protocols and advanced therapies to clinical trials. This pharmacist will focus on the care of these patients while admitted to the hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpreting and evaluating medication orders to ensure drug and dosage are appropriate for patients and to identify possible adverse reactions, discussing concerns and contraindications with the care team as needed.
- Providing drug information as a subject matter expert.
- Providing patient and family education.
- Supervising support personnel within the assigned pharmacy work area
- Promoting participation in clinical education and research through precepting residents, students, interns and mentoring staff.
- Leading and participating in hospital, departmental, and multidisciplinary programs, committees and special projects.
- Developing, recommending, and implementing internal standards, guidelines, protocols, policies, and procedures to improve quality and cost effectiveness of patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, Doctorate degree in pharmacy preferred
Experience:
- Up to one year of post degree course work and/or an internship and: two to three years general pharmacy experience, or one year directly related‑ pediatric experience.
- Analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize the information and data to solve problems OR design relatively complex systems and programs.
- Prior pediatric pharmacist experience in oncology pharmacy preferred, pediatric experience highly preferred
- Experience with EPIC Willow and Beacon highly preferred
- Analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, and summarize the information and data to solve problems or design relatively complex systems and programs
Licensure/Certification:
- Massachusetts pharmacist license, or Massachusetts pharmacy intern license is required; Massachusetts pharmacist intern license holders must be obtain pharmacist licensure within the first 90 days of employment.
This is a day/eve rotating weekend shift position
