WM is seeking an experienced security leader to drive the continued evolution of our Security Operations Center (SOC) while overseeing related security engineering functions. This role is pivotal in advancing our ability to monitor, detect, and respond to threats across a dynamic enterprise environment.

The selected leader will direct modernization, introducing innovative technologies, refined processes, and scalable practices to enhance operational effectiveness. Key priorities include strengthening detection and response workflows, improving operational visibility, and ensuring security measures remain effective against a changing threat landscape.

Beyond daily operations, this role will shape the long-term operations strategy, ensuring that the center remains agile, intelligence-driven, and aligned with the organization’s broader security objectives. The position will also collaborate closely across other digital teams to integrate and maintain security solutions that support day-to-day triage and investigation activities.

An essential element of this role is building and developing a high-performing analyst and engineering team. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning, empowering the SOC to deliver measurable improvements in security posture and resilience. Success will require deep knowledge of security operations, an understanding of enterprise risk, and the ability to translate complex threats into effective operational countermeasures.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of analysts and engineers to continue to cultivate a culture focused on technical excellence, personal accountability, and continuous professional development.
  • Enhance and maintain standardized SOC procedures to ensure consistent execution of threat detection and response activities; optimize workflows and incident management practices using data to improve operational efficiency, reduce response times, and ensure thorough resolution and documentation of security events.
  • Develop and maintain a performance measurement framework using operational metrics to continuously assess SOC effectiveness, identify gaps, and drive strategic improvements in security operations.
  • Encourage proactive security engineering practices and continuous security technology improvement by defining metrics to evaluate control effectiveness and aligning team capabilities to address emerging threats and shifting business priorities.
  • Direct the research, deployment and adoption of key security capabilities—including attack surface management, endpoint and data protection, cloud, email, and network security—while ensuring the safe and secure adoption of AI and agentic solutions within the security ecosystem.
  • Research and assess emerging security trends, threats, and technologies, and direct engineering teams to evaluate, recommend, and implement solutions that enhance the organization’s security posture.
  • Provides strategic leadership by setting and communicating unified goals and direction, empowering team members with the authority and autonomy to act and continuously evaluating performance and resource utilization to implement improvements that drive overall team effectiveness.
  • When necessary, actively participates in incident response efforts, taking charge during major security events by directing response activities, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring timely, effective resolution and communication throughout the incident lifecycle.
  • Drive integration of security into DevOps workflows, enabling secure-by-design practices across cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Provides expert technical and functional leadership and problem resolution to teams.
  • Assigns and reviews work. Allocates appropriate resources to ensure that projects are completed within committed time and budget and are integrated with other software applications.
  • Prepares and/or provides budget input for ongoing and future expenditures, monitors budget performance, and provides forecasts. Monitors departmental performance against budget.
  • Coordinates and oversees recruiting, interviewing, hiring, career development, performance management, pay determination and team communication.
  • III. Qualifications 
  • A. Required Qualifications 
  • Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Computer Science, MIS, Business Administration or similar area of study, or in lieu of degree High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant experience.
  • 8 years or more years previous experience (in addition to education requirement)

B. Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience leading a high-performing and effective Security Operations Center (SOC) function, with a proven track record of operational excellence.
  • Extensive experience managing a security program that integrates vendors and managed service providers as a unified team to execute daily operations and drive long-term improvements.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a track record of solving complex problems and aligning security initiatives with business objectives.
  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat landscapes, risk management frameworks, and regulatory compliance standards such as NIST, ISO, and CIS.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a wide range of security technologies, including endpoint detection and response (EDR), firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), SIEM platforms, data protection, encryption, and cloud/SaaS security.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML-driven security solutions and their implications for threat detection, incident response, and decision-making workflows.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, or equivalent are highly desirable.
