Description

The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University is seeking part-time Faculty Associates to teach existing courses or develop new ones for the Biological Data Science Master’s program during the 2025-2026 academic year and beyond, in both in-person and online formats. Faculty Associates may not hold multiple appointments at Arizona State University. Our graduate program provides a strong foundation in biological sciences, integrating statistical and computational tools to address real-world biological challenges through data-driven solutions. We are especially interested in candidates who are passionate about teaching graduate courses and bring academic or industry expertise in the following areas:

●       Genomics

●        Statistical and Computational Biology Tools

●        Wet Laboratory Experiences

●        Advanced Statistics and Machine Learning

●        Artificial Intelligence in Life Sciences

●        Database Systems and Cloud Computing

●        Database Management in Healthcare

●        Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship

●        Drug Discovery and Development

●        Geospatial Data Science

Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed an average of .40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based on qualifications and assigned teaching load. The college and university may extend teaching opportunities in future semesters, depending on factors such as instructional effectiveness, student feedback, and course demand and availability.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Teach upper and/or lower-division courses to undergraduate and graduate students, in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats.
  • Prepare syllabus, lectures and class materials, exams, and grade assignments and exams.
  • Maintain regular availability to students including office hours as appropriate to course modality.
  • Monitor student success and regularly respond to student academic issues.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

●       Doctoral degree in a related field

Desired Qualifications:  

●       Experience in teaching or developing graduate-level courses in-person or online in related fields

●       Experience using online learning platforms and developing interactive course materials, including interactive videos, lectures, and assignments for online courses

●       Experience in managing graduate courses

●       Experience teaching or relevant industry experience, including working with profit or non-profit institutions

●       Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including first-generation college students

●       Evidence of teaching excellence e.g., student evaluations, syllabi, peer observation, annual evaluations, etc.
