Position Purpose
The Research Director – Industry (US Government) is responsible for delivering Info-Tech’s research projects and advisory services to clients in the public sector, including municipal, state, tribal nation, and federal organizations. This role requires deep knowledge of US government operations and IT, and a research-driven approach to help leaders modernize legacy systems, strengthen cybersecurity, improve service delivery, and meet evolving citizen expectations.
A successful candidate will research and provide actionable insights and frameworks that address sector-specific challenges such as procurement complexity, budget constraints, regulatory compliance, digital US government mandates, and cross-agency coordination. They will remain engaged with industry developments, ensuring our research reflects the realities of public sector IT leaders worldwide. This position combines research development, advisory calls, and workshop facilitation, working collaboratively across Info-Tech to deliver high-impact, industry-specific guidance.

What you will do, includes, but not limited to:
Research
- Conduct in-depth research on US government IT challenges including modernization of legacy systems, cybersecurity and resilience, digital identity, and accessibility.
- Track emerging trends such as smart cities, open data initiatives, cloud adoption, and AI in public services.
- Develop structured frameworks, methodologies, and tools tailored to the realities of public sector institutions.
- Shape and contribute to the research agenda to reflect the priorities of CIOs and IT leaders in US government.
Advisory Calls with Clients
- Lead one-on-one calls with US government leaders to provide research-backed guidance on strategic and operational issues.
- Translate published research into actionable recommendations that address complex governance, procurement, and service delivery environments.
- Identify gaps in research content and escalate opportunities for new development.
Workshop Facilitation
- Guide public sector clients through planning and decision-making on digital strategy, service modernization, and IT governance.
- Help participants translate frameworks into measurable, citizen-centered outcomes.
- Deliver clear, practical outputs that align with the regulatory, financial, and operational contexts of US government organizations.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration & Support
- Collaborate with Advisory, Workshops, and Global Services teams to provide integrated support.
- Share expertise with Sales, Marketing, and Events teams to strengthen our presence in the US government sector.
- Represent Info-Tech at US government IT forums and deliver thought leadership presentations to senior public sector audiences.
To be successful, you will need:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, Computer Science, or a related discipline; equivalent professional experience considered.
- Professional certifications such as PMP, ITIL, or COBIT are assets.
- 5–10+ years of experience in IT leadership, consulting, or analysis in the US government sector, ideally with exposure to multiple levels (municipal, state, tribal nation, federal).
- Presentation and facilitation experience demonstrated through prior client-facing engagements important.
- History of gaining and maintaining trusted advisor status with management. Strong working relationships with C-suite considered beneficial.
- Demonstrated experience leading IT initiatives in areas such as:
- Legacy system modernization and digital transformation
- Public sector procurement and vendor management
- Governance, risk, and compliance
- Cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection
- Open data, transparency, and accessibility initiatives
Travel Requirement: Must be flexible and have ability to travel periodically to deliver workshops onsite at client locations both within and outside of North America.
Visa Requirement: Must be eligible to obtain appropriate work Visa for cross-border work within North America and globally.
Work Hours Requirements: Must be available for after-hours work periodically to service APAC clients.
