William Blair are a leading global investment management firm expanding our trading presence into Asia. We are seeking an experienced Asia Trader to join our Global Trading team, based in our Singapore office. The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution and oversight of trades across multiple asset classes, including equities, fixed income, FX, commodities, and derivatives. This role requires deep market knowledge, excellent communication skills, a strong quantitative mindset and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment to drive execution excellence across multiple asset classes.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Execute trades across a broad range of asset classes including equities, fixed income, FX, commodities and derivatives, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region.
- Partner closely with portfolio managers and analysts to implement investment strategies in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Provide real-time market insights and colour, helping to shape investment decisions and execution tactics.
- Monitor market trends, liquidity, order flows, and macroeconomic developments to assess trading risks and opportunities.
- Communicate market news to investment teams in verbal and written format.
- Manage relationships with brokers, trading platforms and liquidity providers to ensure optimal execution and access to best-in-class service.
- Ensure full compliance with internal risk management policies and regulatory requirements across jurisdictions.
- Contribute to the development of advanced trading tools, algorithms, and execution analytics.
- Provide thought leadership and insights on market structure and trading innovation
- Analyze trading performance, transaction costs, and liquidity conditions to enhance execution quality.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of junior colleagues and provide guidance where appropriate.
- Assist in the allocation and tracking of brokerage commissions.
- Additional responsibilities as requested.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or CFA preferred.
- 7+ years of experience trading across multiple asset classes in a buy-side or sell-side institution.
- Meaningful and proven levels of responsibility, ability to use initiative in a high-pressure environment.
- Advanced understanding of equity trading procedures and regulations.
- Ability to multi-task and function with high level of detail, attention, and autonomy.
- Driven and persistent professional with a proven record of proactively tackling challenges and exceeding expectations, leading to rapid career progression.
- Proven track record of success in global trading with a deep understanding of APAC market microstructure.
- Strong overall broker-dealer relationships. Including contacts in ECM, block and sales trading.
- Exceptional communication and decision-making skills.
- Understanding of fundamental financial, technical and economic factors driving security valuations.
- Strong knowledge of electronic trading platforms.
- Proficiency in Excel; programming experience (e.g., Python, R, SQL) is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
