JOB PURPOSE:

To conduct and develop reagents (i.e. proteins, antibodies, etc.) needed for biochemical assays to characterize the molecular mechanism of small molecules synthesized by the Smith Lab.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:
This position may involve supervising undergraduate and graduate students when conducting biochemical experiments.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts include Jacqueline Smith. External contacts include N/A.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The Postdoctoral Research will be responsible for the following.
● Conducting multi-scale protein expression and purification in prokaryotic and eukaryotic expression systems
● Designing and performing enzymatic assays
● Designing and performing binding essays using fluorescent markers
● Operating and maintaining HPLC instrumentation
● Conducting conjugate synthesis, purification and characterization
● Presenting research findings at regular group meetings, as well as local and national conferences
● Publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals

CORE COMPETENCIES:

● Proficiency in protein purification and other biochemical procedures is required.
● Experience with microscopy
● Experience in cell culture
● Experience in western blotting
● Experience in fluorescence spectroscopy
● Proficiency in experimental design, data analysis and data storage
● Ability to work independently work
● Strong written and oral communication skills

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
PhD in Biochemistry, Chemical Biology or closely related field
