POSITION SUMMARY:
The Recreation Specialist Apprentice position is part of our Junior Personal Trainer
Apprenticeship Program, designed to kickstart careers in fitness, aquatics, and recreation.
This hands-on, paid opportunity is ideal for individuals passionate about health and wellness
who want to gain real-world experience working alongside certified fitness professionals. No
prior experience is necessary—just a strong interest in helping others achieve their fitness
goals. This apprenticeship offers immersive, practical training in the fundamentals of personal
training and recreation services. Apprentices will receive mentorship, skill development, and the
chance to work toward earning a nationally recognized personal training certification. This role
includes cross-training in aquatics and recreation operations to build a well-rounded foundation
in the wellness industry.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
● Assist certified personal trainers in designing and leading client workouts.
● Gain practical knowledge in exercise science, strength training, and nutrition.
● Learn how to assess client fitness levels and track progress.
● Develop communication and coaching skills to motivate members.
● Conduct high-quality, engaging fitness appointments with members.
● Receive training in swim instruction, lifeguarding, and pool maintenance (as applicable).
● Ensure member and guest safety during fitness, swim, and recreation programming.
● Support gym operations including setup, cleaning, customer service, and equipment
management.
● Plan and support recreation and fitness programming under supervision.
● Regularly circulate in the fitness center to enforce policies and provide support.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● High school diploma, GED, or currently working toward completion.
● Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid).
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
● Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and enthusiasm.
● Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
2. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
3. Exposure to fitness equipment, cleaning products, and pool environments.
4. Frequent interaction with members of all ages and fitness levels.
