Job Summary:

This position will be in the Section of Hematology Oncology and Bone Marrow transplantation and Cellular Therapy at an Instructor level, working in the clinical service area of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD). The duties are in the Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant inpatient units, working as a nocturnist. These teams care for pediatric and young adult patients with blood disorders and cancers of all types, and patients undergoing BMT for both benign and malignant disorders in the inpatient setting. This position will oversee the care of these patients at night, and on some day shifts for periods when service needs require it. They will communicate with the fellows and attendings for situations that require subspecialty expertise. They will admit patients to the hospital for clinical situations such as fever, partnering with the subspecialty fellow and attending. They will work with on-call pediatric residents.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Provide independent care of pediatric hematology-oncology and BMT patients, in the inpatient hospital service, on nights with some day coverage for occasional 24 hour shifts

·         Perform admission history and physical exams and documentation.

·         Perform evaluation of patients as requested by nursing and residents.

·         Participate in rapid response team evaluations.

·         Participate in end-of-day signout with residents and fellows.

·         Write chemotherapy orders in collaboration with physician and PA/NP providers

·         Perform procedures independently

·         Lumbar punctures with intrathecal chemotherapy administration

·         Bone marrow aspirations and biopsies

·         This position will also have holiday and weekend responsibilities.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

·         Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant OR Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

·         For Nurse Practitioners: Acute Care Certification is required prior to hire

·         Active CO state license in the appropriate discipline or ability to obtain

Condition of Employment:

·         Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado

·         Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Oncology experience

·         Completion of pediatric residency or fellowship

·         Strong preference for experience in pediatric hematology-oncology

·         Prescriptive Authority is preferred, and if not currently certified, completing this process will be required during the first year of employment for those for whom this is a relevant certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·         Expertise and skill in pediatrics is required.

·         You must be a team player and have strong communication skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

NP or PA: $121,000-139,000 MD or DO: $172,000-190,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
