We have an exciting opportunity for a  Community Liaison to join our team of talented professionals. 


The Community Liaison serves as a direct connection between The Guidance Center and the community, supporting health initiatives focused on substance use prevention, mental health promotion, suicide awareness, and access to care, as well as supporting and promoting parent focused and family engagement events and activities. This role supports outreach, engagement, event coordination, and relationship-building with local partners, schools, and families in the Downriver area. This position is employed by The Guidance Center and supports the Healthy Downriver Coalition, a multi-sector initiative focused on health promotion and substance use prevention in the Downriver area.

Requirements

This position requires:

  •  At least a Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, public health, education, or related field. 
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in outreach, community services and advocacy on behalf of youth and families.
  • Qualified candidates will be comfortable in communicating with a diverse group of individuals and with group facilitation and public speaking. 
  • Experience in substance abuse prevention, mental health promotion, and health and wellness and family engagement preferred. 
  • Certification through MCBAP, Michigan Certification Board of Addiction Professionals, or as a Certified Health Education Specialist, CHES, a plus. 
  • Candidate will have the ability to engage and maintain positive relationships with youth and their family members; as well as develop collaborative relationships with school personnel, staff members, and community stakeholders. 
  • Candidate will be able to develop collaborative relationships with other agencies and engage and maintain community members in work to promote health and wellness, including mental health and to prevent underage drinking and youth substance use.  
  • Knowledge and experience in policy change a plus. 
  • Being comfortable and having experience in public speaking preferred. 
  • Candidate must have the ability to lead others and work cooperatively with a team. 
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills; a willingness to be helpful, flexible, patient, and creative; and the ability to remain calm during crisis situations are required. 
  • Candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Candidate must have working knowledge of general office procedures, use of standard office equipment and basic computer skills including utilization of Internet, MS Word, Excel and social media. 
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record and the ability to work flexible hours (some evenings and weekends.)
