Power/ Countermeasures Systems Engineer
Primary Location: Springfield, VA / OCONUS Travel Required
Clearance: Active Top Secret with ability to obtain SCI access
Ability to work remotely: No - Position requires significant OCONUS travel and on-site work
Job Summary
Join our specialized team responsible for the design, installation, operation, and lifecycle maintenance of advanced countermeasures systems primarily at overseas diplomatic facilities for the Department of State. This role involves building and configuring sophisticated countermeasures equipment, ensuring interoperability of highly technical systems, and providing comprehensive technical support throughout all project phases. The position requires extensive international travel to critical locations worldwide and demands both independent research capabilities and collaborative teamwork skills.
Specific Responsibilities
- Design, install, operate, and maintain advanced countermeasures systems at overseas diplomatic facilities
- Build and configure countermeasures equipment to ensure proper functionality and optimal operation
- Manage hardware and software configuration changes to ensure interoperability of highly technical equipment
- Provide technical support for pre-installation, installation, and post-installation phases of countermeasures systems
- Coordinate and prepare comprehensive technical reports, summaries, and documentation for all project phases
- Evaluate and develop new countermeasure systems and test equipment, documenting capabilities and limitations
- Train Department of State personnel on maintenance, installation, and operation techniques for countermeasures systems
- Conduct independent research on emerging technologies with minimal oversight and perform laboratory/field testing
- Draft and review technical security policies and operational guidelines for countermeasures systems integration
- Participate in project design and review meetings, contributing technical expertise and recommendations
- Coordinate travel logistics and provide on-site technical support for equipment upgrades, repairs, and replacements
- Create detailed surveys for new countermeasure installations at existing facilities
- Develop user manuals and training materials for multiple existing and upcoming systems
- Read, interpret, and create electrical and electromechanical schematics and building systems drawings
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Current Top Secret security clearance with ability to qualify for SCI access (SSBI less than 4.5 years old)
- Minimum four years of work experience in power systems, electrical engineering, or physics
- Bachelor's degree in relevant technical field or equivalent professional experience
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Project, Visio, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Understanding of Internet of Things (IoT), security systems, and associated technology trends
- Ability to read, interpret, and create electrical and electromechanical schematics
- Understanding of single and triple phase power systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task efficiently in fast-paced environments
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and reporting
- Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, C++, or other languages (preferred but not required)
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to work in austere living conditions at overseas diplomatic facilities
- Physical capability to install and maintain technical equipment in various environmental conditions
- Ability to work in critical threat locations with heightened security requirements
Travel
- 15-40% travel required, primarily OCONUS to Department of State diplomatic facilities worldwide
- International travel may include assignments to critical threat locations with challenging living conditions
- Domestic travel may be required for training sessions and program coordination meetings
