Wood is recruiting for a Senior Civil Engineer to join its Minerals and Metals business focusing on major minerals and mining projects. This opportunity can be based in Vancouver, BC or in Oakville, ON.

Final salary will be based on relevant and applicable experience, education, and the specific skill set and qualifications required for the role.

Typical responsibilities
- Lead work groups or project teams
- Focus on meeting client objectives
- Lead civil engineering design and technical support for the construction and modification of mining and industrial facilities and services, including calculations, design drawing review as well as field investigations
- Prepare proposals, feasibility studies, preliminary design, engineering specifications, and contract documents
- Review project documents prior to issue for scope and presentation, including checking for technical quality and accuracy
- Monitor changes and revisions to designs and assess the impact on cost and scheduling.
- Plan and oversee various construction efforts.
- Provide technical assistance to the site during the construction phase.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure design intent is met and ensure that all rules, regulations, and guidelines are explicitly followed.
- Develop or alter standard project specifications to meet project-specific design criteria.
- Monitor and guide design/drafting tasks and oversee the internal checking required on all project drawings.
- Assure the technical quality of work performed by subordinates based upon organizational standards, codes and general knowledge of engineering principles and projects.
- Organize, plan, and coordinate own work as well as the resources assigned on a specific project.
- Partake in and/or lead EGBC technical reviews and internal discipline audits as required.
- Responsible for sealing all drawings that have been prepared under their direction as required in the jurisdiction where professional designation is recognized.
- Operating within the company's quality system and safety policy in all phases of assignments.
- Coordinate and work with project team members in Canada and other Wood execution offices across the globe.
- Give effective presentations to customers, suppliers and internally within the organization.
- Coach and mentor less experienced engineers and designers.
- Manage multiple tasks in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Develop and maintain positive & sustainable client relationships

Expected:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Civil Engineering with a P. Eng. designation in Canada. Professional registration in one of the US states is a significant advantage.
- A minimum 15 years of experience in civil engineering design within mining, energy and/or industrial projects of varying stages from conceptual to detailed design
- Solid experience in site development, and pipe and open channel hydraulics
- Tailings/slurry piping design experience is an asset
- Sound knowledge of various piping materials, fittings and joining methods
- Experience in storm water management, stormwater runoff calculations, sizing the ditches, culverts and ponds
- Good understanding of various coordinate systems and survey controls
- Experience in interpreting and applying geotechnical design recommendations on civil designs
- Extensive knowledge of general civil designs and an understanding of industry codes, standards and construction methods
- Capable of developing creative yet practical concepts
- Experience in writing technical reports, specifications and in preparing the material take-offs
- Experience in technical evaluations of construction contracts and material / equipment supply contracts
- Excellent organizational, technical, communication and computer skills
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood now or in the future
