About the Role:
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences places high emphasis on research that makes a difference and is solution-led. We work closely with industry partners and the government to put findings into practice.
The Associate Research Fellow will be responsible for supporting the implementation and analysis of the quantitative (survey) component of the Australian Research Council funded Discovery Project: Youth Futures after Mobility (YFAM). The project is a multi-method longitudinal wave-based study (2020-2030) of transnationally mobile youth and their transitions to adulthood, led by Professor Anita Harris (Deakin University) and Professor Loretta Baldassar (Edith Cowan University). Two waves have been undertaken, and two further waves are planned for 2026 and 2028.
As an Associate Research Fellow, you will:
- Support survey instrument design, testing and implementation
- Undertake data collection, cleaning, coding and analysis, including comparative analysis
- Assist with communicating results to a range of audiences (including participants)
- Support the design and maintenance of a data dashboard
- Assist with the production of technical reports, research reports and papers
To be successful, you’ll have:
- PhD in a relevant discipline and/or other relevant qualifications and experience.
- Capacity to contribute to research and administration.
- Quantitative and/or mixed methods research skills and a background in Sociology, Anthropology, Education, Cultural Studies, Social Geography or cognate discipline.
- Experience in survey instrument design & testing, data collection, coding, statistical and other relevant analysis, technical documentation of design, analysis and results, data dashboard design.
- Familiarity with relevant software packages, including Qualtrics, R and SPSS.
- Experience with or understanding of longitudinal studies, including participant management, retention and recruitment strategies, the incorporation of new data into existing data sets.
- Experience/interest in youth studies and migration research
