At Mahaska Health The Primary Role Of The Training And Development Specialist Is To Assist The Mahaska Health Patient Accounts Department To Design And Implement A Training Program That Will Improve Employee Productivity And Effectiveness. The Role Of A Learning And Development Specialist Includes Conducting Needs Assessments, Designing Training Programs, Developing Instructional Materials, Delivering Training Sessions, And Evaluating The Results Of Training Programs.

Remote position - Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Essential Job Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To,

  • Become a UnityPoint Health (UPH) EPIC Certified Trainer (CT) for both Hospital Billing (HB) and Professional Billing (PB).
  • Train new Patient Accounts team members on both HB and PB workqueues (WQs) that they are assigned to in EPIC.
  • Maintain ongoing training for Patient Accounts team members for both HB and PB.
  • Conduct account audits and competencies for both HB and PB.
  • Create and maintain EPIC tipsheets.
  • Pull and assess Biller scorecards weekly.
  • Provide ongoing support to the Patient Accounts department, answer questions, manage and maintain workflows, etc.
  • Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
  • Conduct self in accordance with Mahaska Health’s confidentiality policy; ensuring to follow all MHP training guidelines in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with employees, visitors, medical staff, and patients, keeping in mind the person’s unique needs within their age category (refer to Mahaska Health’s Age Specific Standards of Care Policy).
  • Ability to deal with confidential information.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Attend meetings, as requested.
  • All other duties as assigned or requested.

 Job Requirements include but are not limited to,

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Expert knowledge of the electronic health record, EPIC.
  • Basic knowledge of medical billing and payment posting.
  • Basic knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS.
  • Basic knowledge of health insurance rules and regulations.
  • Will be required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at the time of hire or attend within 6 months of the start date.
  • Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
  • Understand and comply with the requirements of MH’s Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, Mahaska Health Experience Book and all supporting policies for compliance, and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.
  • Consistently support the Compliance Program through personal example; the provision of day-to-day instruction and correction to employees regarding compliance-related issues; application of appropriate discipline as required for compliance violations; and ongoing monitoring of activities and work product in areas of responsibility with respect to compliance-related issues.
