Job Description

We are looking for a MO Crude Optimiser for our refineries. This position will report to the Margin Optimisation (MO) manager NW Europe in Crude Trading.

What’s the role

The Margin Optimization team works across multiple countries and interacts daily with the crude and product trading teams in London and Rotterdam. The Crude Optimiser is part of the team that will protect and maximize the value of the asset together with the Asset Management team in the region.

As crude optimiser you are accountable for purchasing the optimal crude and feedstock plan with the intent to maximise the margin of the asset, whilst managing working capital and exposure.

This is a highly dynamic job with daily movements in crude & product prices and supply and demands, requiring sharp analytical capabilities while working together with a large group of stakeholders in trading as well as with the asset.

More specific responsibilities include:

  • Business development: feed and drive initiatives for extra margin generation from crude & feedstock processing and challenging constraints in the asset and constraints as a result of product sales.
  • Purchase the highest value feedstocks for the refinery while managing changes, uncertainty and changes in exposure as a result
  • Drive for delivering value both for the asset and trading by buying the right feedstocks at the right time.
  • Work within the MO organization and the asset to drive value through broadening the slate of acceptable crudes following the Management of Change (MOC) processes
  • Assess optimal recovery plan from any unplanned events

What do we need from you?

We’re keen to speak from individuals with a technical university degree or equivalent experience.

Beyond that, we hope to see the following on your CV:

  • High capacity & excellent analytical skills to work with large amounts of data
  • Being able to work in a dynamic environment requiring quick decision taking
  • Able to work with a diverse team in trading and the Energy & Chemicals parcs
  • Good understanding/skills in (some of) the following areas:
    • Refinery technology/processes, configuration & constraints
    • Exposure management
    • Optimization tools
    • Crude trading
  • Background in a (technical) refinery role and ideally some Linear Program/E&S experience
