Excellence & Assurance Specialist

General Position Definition:

Shell Trading integrates a worldwide trading network with an unsurpassed global portfolio in Crude Oil, Refined Oil Products, LNG, Gas, Power & Environmental Products with larger locations in London, Houston, Calgary, Singapore, Dubai, Rotterdam, and Bahamas. The Trading & Supply Contracts team is responsible for managing the entire contracts process, including the provision of pre-deal and post deal commercial advice, contract drafting, internal authorization and dispatch of contracts/contract responses, records management, and value-driven commercial advice to the business when negotiating complex contractual arrangements. The Excellence & Assurance Specialist will report to the Contracts Manager Excellence & Assurance and collaborate with Contracts colleagues and business partners to facilitate and deliver key transformation projects and support organisational leadership.

The position is considered Virtual, meaning it could be based in one of several Shell locations.


Position Accountabilities
• The role of the Excellence & Assurance Specialist requires the individual to work closely with the regional teams and to connect with the people in the Frontline and interact with our several supporting functions, such as Legal, Compliance, Finance and other functions.
• Responsible to develop, co-creating as necessary, manage and deliver specific and, in some cases, global improvement projects/initiatives aligned with the T&S imperatives of HSSE, Risk Management and Value through cross-functional and cross-organizational teams as required.
• Ensuring/verifying that all processes comply with all local implementation policies, CARF, manual of authorities, business controls, Shell Group policy and standards as well as meet all regulatory requirements whilst maintaining a keen sense of process efficiency.
• Assure required processes and controls, change management, including new/updated ways of working, are embedded within T&S as a core aspect of project/initiative delivery.
• Serving as a key focal to increase operational efficiencies and drive performance improvements across the business. Along with other supporting teams and other relevant functions, alleviate current pain points and look to make the contractual workflow/review more efficient, including via the use of digital solutions.
• Fostering open mindset culture through consistent and sustainable application of learning opportunities by means of displaying problem solving capabilities to find solutions for operational, compliance, product, commercial and strategic issues facing the business.
• This role will have exposure to the global Contracts Leadership Team and report directly to the Contracts Manager Excellence & Assurance.

Experience and Qualifications required:
• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 4 years in trading operations/Contracts.
• Having worked and deep knowledge of the contracting system both in Gas & Power and Oil & Products.
• Good IT systems architecture knowledge and skills in Excel, Power BI et similar.
• Good commercial judgement and ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities.
• Demonstrated learning agility in ambiguous and unfamiliar situations.
• Familiar with and able to adhere to project management methodologies and tools.
• Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
• Relevant work experience in Oil, Gas & Power business is a must have.
• Ability to motivate and drive the performance of projects/initiatives of the team and single out key issues to drive the team toward solutions.
• Use interpersonal and team leadership skills to influence senior business leadership to gain support for business change/transformation activities.
• Courage to intervene and challenge status quo and take decisions under pressure whilst maintaining a delivery focus with a strong drive to deliver on commitments.
• Relevant experience with business management, operations and assessing SOX and KnS controls coupled with outstanding qualities of independence, objectivity and analysis.
• Self-motivated, organized and adaptable with developed presentation skills & ability to communicate credibly with senior management.
• Proven ability to collaborate across business boundaries to deliver people, process, and solutions that improve business performance; close collaboration with the business and other functions is critical to succeed in this role.
• Knowledge of internal contractual requirements including but not limited to, ABC, AML, Trade Controls, CARF, MoA process, SDN, HRCC requirements et similar.
