Job Overview

The Environmental, ealth, and Safety (EHS) specialist position participates in and leads initiatives to provide for the safety, health, and environmental requirements of the employees. The position ensures all employees are trained in safety components relating to their position. The specialist reports to the EHS Manager and works to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations for all employees, equipment, and operations. This role reduces workers’ compensation exposure through accident investigation and proactive accident reduction techniques.

 

Annual Salary

$77,000 - $80,000

Responsibilities

  • Drive a safety-first culture across all departments and perform routine audits to identify and drive improvements.
  • Implement safety and accident prevention policies in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Evaluates workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Conducts safety training and demonstrates the use of safety equipment.
  • Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned task.
  • Ensure employees refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through Lockout-Tagout methods.
  • Conduct incident investigations, prepare necessary reports, communicate to line management, EHS Manager, and safety committee.
  • Ensure that all employees, including temporary workers and contractors, adhere to safety requirements including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Ensure that employees are working in accordance with divisional health and safety procedures.
  • Applies progressive discipline as appropriate for health, safety and/or environmental violations.
  • Serve in an advisory capacity to management, liaison with OSHA inspections and correspondence, or with other department/entities (internal or external) as required.
  • Establish & maintain EHS database and ensure Nikkiso Cryoquip is compliant with all Nikkiso CEIG EHS requirements with developed action plans to achieve compliance.
  • Represents the company in community and industry safety groups, programs, and conferences.
  • Keeps abreast of current developments of training, safety, and accident prevention programs.
  • Maintains records and assembling reports on lost time accidents.
  • Implements hazardous material control. 

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work Environment

This job is operated in a manufacturing environment. This role routinely utilizes the operation of material handling equipment and various tools and machinery. 

 

Physical Demands

  • The employee may be required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert up to 25 pounds of force frequently.
  • Visual acuity – Normal requirements for reading written instructions and computer screens.
  • Hearing ability – Normal requirements for understanding verbal instructions.
  • Working conditions – The employee is subject to a normal office environment with significant exposure to high noise levels and/or physical hazards when visiting manufacturing floor daily.
  • Capable of wearing appropriate related PPE for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or combination of 5+ years of equivalent education/safety experience.
  • PC literate with Microsoft Office suite and capable of learning other computer programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Lead root cause investigations.
  • Applying corrective actions.
  • Federal & state regulatory compliance.
  • Fall Protection Competent Person
  • Certified Instructor:
  • Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT).
  • Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP)

Travel

Domestic travel may be required.
