Responsibilities
Provides assistance to the physician & direct care to the adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient. Also, performs delegated unit tasks as assigned by the Registered Nurse.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Prepares room and equipment prior to procedure and assists with patient positioning and monitor application.
Transports patients to and from patient care areas, and to discharge area
May transport specimens as necessary.
Assists physicians and nurses during procedures by passing instruments and equipment, manipulating scope as directed by the physician. Assists with specimen collection and identification in collaboration with the physician and nurse. Applies abdominal pressure under direction of the physician.
Organizes procedure table with equipment, supplies, & solutions.
Performs post–procedure room clean up, including scope maintenance and restocking supplies. Prepares room for subsequent procedures.
Maintains instruments and accessories in working order, including decontamination and sterilization of endoscopic equipment.
Trains staff in proper maintenance and minor repair of scopes and other equipment.
Orders and maintains par levels of GI specific equipment & supplies. Recommends equipment orders to leadership.
Collaborates with Clinician to provide clinical experience and instruction to student programs.
Participates in development and update of MD preference cards.
Assists in the ongoing administration of hospital and department Quality Improvement program.
Maintains a clean and safe patient care environment, and follows hospital and department policy and procedures for aseptic techniques, hand hygiene and infection control.
Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Manager.
Assists with pre procedure patient preparation.
Assists with post procedure patient monitoring data collection.
Maintains clean and sterile techniques, recognizes breaks in techniques, and takes steps to correct.
Qualifications
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent or post-secondary education
Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
One (1) year of experience as a GI Lab Technician
SGNA Associates Program Certificate for GI Techs
SGNA Advanced Associates Program Certificate for GI Techs within 12 months of start date
Preferred
Visual color acuity screening depending on the role in specific units.
