Job Description

To assist the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) team by contributing and promoting the Zero Harm safety culture and Somerset Larder’s Health and Safety Policies.

Supporting with daily, weekly, and monthly health and safety tasks such as HSE data collection and entry into HSE software applications – Insight, updating COSHH information in CHEMDOC, asset management and other requirements etc.

Key Tasks:

  • Conduct NNB site induction with new employees, visitors, and Tier 2 contractors, as part of a team.
  • Participate in health and safety inspections (planned HSE and focused inspections e.g., General HSE, COSHH, PVPI, Manual handling, Occupational hygiene, fire safety, emergency preparedness etc.).
  • Report writing of inspection reports and others where required.
  • Develop toolbox talks, safety flashes, safety alerts and SSW (safe systems of work) and support delivery.
  • Maintain and update RAMS (risk assessment and method statements) and general risk assessments. Support the production and updating of risk assessments.
  • Maintain and update COSHH Requirements (maintaining and updating unit COSHH folders) and ensuring all departments are kept current.
  • Attending health and safety committee meetings and other relevant meetings, taking notes and actions as required.
  • Work closely with contractors ensuring the company health and safety requirements are followed and complied with.
  • Liaising with Tier 2 contractors, review contractor HSE information to ensure compliance and safety requirements are met
  • Liaise and advise catering operational teams on health and safety matters to ensure high health & Safety standards
  • Research and follow up regarding safety approaches, and operating manuals for kitchen and catering equipment
  • Assist with implementing actions from HSE inspections and audits assigned to health and safety team.
  • Assist with information gathering for incident investigations and monthly incident reporting.
  • Update incident and observations registers and produce data sets
  • Completes swabbing/QA/Food Safety test procedures and maintain accurate records of completed tests.

 

Environmental

  • Progress the environmental and sustainability agenda within the business, identifying improvements and changes to support our Planet value

 

Systems, Projects and Business Support

  • Update and maintain HSE software applications (CHEMDOC, Insight, Hospitality tracker etc).
  • Assist with HSE requirements during ad-hoc operational projects – site induction talks, contractor supervision, set to work procedures etc.
  • Asset management (asset register entry and updating) of relevant equipment and liaising with business support colleagues and use the CAFM system
  • Serve as DMS (delivery management system) administrator back-up if and when required to support business continuity
  • Management of critical stores items and record keeping.
  • Project support.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

  • Proven administration and computer skills
  • A good understanding of health and safety concepts (Hazard identification, fire safety, emergency preparedness) and the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974
  • A good level of English, both written and oral including business English
  • An interest in the Health, Safety and/or Environmental agenda
  • Confident communicator both verbally and written
  • Able to build effective relationship with operational teams and contractors
  • A confidential demeanour
  • Able to work methodically and independently
  • Accurate and attention to detail
  • Able to use the functions of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Email etc) and other software applications
  • Asks for help when unsure
  • A natural desire to learn and contribute to workplace safety for all.
  • Able to follow set procedures to complete swabbing/QA tests

Pre-Employment Screening
