Position Overview:

As a Dynamometer Test Technician on Mercury Marine's Product Development & Engineering team, you will play a crucial role in the preparation and execution of dynamometer testing for gasoline and electric propulsion products. The product development team will rely on your expertise to test, diagnose and provide data. Your responsibilities will range from performance calibrations and lubrication system development to certifying outboards to meet regulatory emissions standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Execute dynamometer testing on both new and existing marine propulsion products, including gasoline and electric motors.

  • Rig engines within the dynamometer cell

    • Installing and/or connecting all necessary instrumentation

    • Setting up tank and dynamometer to various outboard applications

    • Install cowling and hoses

  • Perform routine maintenance on test units, including oil changes, valve lash adjustments, spark plug replacements, and taking oil samples.

  • Install or remove engine components as required (e.g., cylinder heads, camshafts, exhaust systems, sensors).

  • Troubleshoot engine and test cell issues—both electrical and mechanical

  • Fabricate fixtures and test parts

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment within the dynamometer cell and at the dyno console.

  • Document and maintain detailed written logs and data records for all test cycles and maintenance activities.

  • Support and mentor team members in best practices, safety, and technical skills.

  • Actively participate as a team member and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to safety in all operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required

  • Exceptional attention to detail, especially crucial with written documentation and data recording

  • Proficiency in disassembly, assembly, troubleshooting, and operation theory of internal combustion engines

  • Demonstrated experience using related precision tools and equipment, such as torque wrenches, borescopes, and calipers

  • Solid computer skills for data acquisition, report generation, and test management

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including the occasional evenings or weekends, as dictated by testing schedules and project demands

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or a Technical field

  • Basic experience with machining, welding, and fabrication

  • Previous experience with dynamometer testing, engine performance, emissions, or tuning

  • Experience with electric motor testing is a strong plus

  • Familiarity with AVL Puma software

Work Environment:

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a dynamic, sometimes noisy or hot/cold test cell environment

  • Work is primarily conducted in an engine test cell and laboratory setting, with exposure to noise, fumes, and occasional heavy lifting

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times

The anticipated pay range for this position is $53,100-$83,800 annually. The actual base pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors including job- related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. At Brunswick, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the salary range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context.
