Job Description Summary

Our team works with the largest distribution partners to help support their unique business strategies. We are partners in the truest sense; we have a deep understanding of their business and develop a company-level strategy to support them using the full scope of products and capabilities from across Nationwide. As the Leader of National Partners, you’ll provide strategic vision and lead relationship development for all National Agency relationships across the country. You’ll also cultivate, develop, and maintain strategic partnerships with c-suite/executive leadership of large national agencies and brokers. You will maximize national agent, broker, and affinity relationships across all product lines to achieve profitable growth.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership for the national agency development (NAD) team; defines national agency criteria prepares budget and financial performance/production objectives; develops the enterprise-side strategy for National Agencies. Represents Nationwide effectively to executive leadership within national agencies. Provides connection point between these agencies, c-suite executives, and the Nationwide enterprise.

  • Develops strong strategic partnerships with executive leaders within national agencies and communicates effectively with business unit leadership within Nationwide; acts as the consultant to Nationwide business unit leadership on national agencies and Nationwide’s diverse portfolio of products.

  • Develops and implements strategic growth and profit plans through identification of new business opportunities with national agencies; facilitates the expansion of the national agency pool; identifies and identifies new national agency prospects; contributes to the company’s overall targeted operating margins and expense management, responsible for positively impacting retention; responsible for appointment and terminations of agencies. Assists internal partners with product development.

  • Partners with senior leaders within Nationwide business units to share the National Agency strategic plan and gain appropriate partnership support to achieve the growth and profit goals.

  • Oversees new national agency appointments and terminations; works with business unit distribution leaders to design contingency options and negotiates compensation agreements with National Agencies. Monitors National Agency’s overall performance as well as the business unit performance; shares performance information with executive leaders.

  • Collaborates across all business unit Presidents to identify and drive solutions and business opportunities.

  • Works with Office of General Council and P&C Compensation and Licensing to develop contracts that meet the needs of National Agents.

  • Creates increased visibility and accountability for the management of National Agencies; facilitates regular stakeholder meetings; work as one team to create win-win scenarios between our partners and Nationwide helps get internal resources assigned for National Agency projects; creates connections with other areas of the organization for products/services we might add to the national agency relationship.

Performs other duties as required

Reporting Relationships:  Reports to the President, E&S Specialty and Commercial Lines. Direct reports include three AVPs and one Director. Leads a team of 18 associates.

Typical Skills and Experience:

Education:  Undergraduate degree in business, insurance, marketing or related field. CPCU, CLU or equivalent insurance education preferred.

Experience: 20+ years insurance industry leadership experience, preferably field experience in sales or underwriting as well as large broker relationship expertise.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Executive Presence, Negotiation Skills, Drive for Results, Strategic Mindset, Organizational Savvy, Manage Complexity and Drives Vision and Purpose.

Strong knowledge and experience in large broker networks with a demonstrated track record in managing c-suite executives.  

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the Vice President and Human Resources officer.
