Job Summary

This Principal NodeJS API Development Engineer position will work on project Iris, the design and drafting platform for Comcast’s fiber optic and coax network. Iris is being developed by team with AeGIS, the group within CONNECT that develops tools to support the construction and maintenance of Comcast’s access network. Iris is a modern, GIS-based CAD tool, used to design Comcast’s access network, which consists of more than one million miles of fiber and coaxial cable, and millions of active and passive interconnecting devices. Iris also supports automation tools to reduce the time and cost of the design process.

Comcast is deploying the most advanced networks in the world, and needs powerful tools to support that effort. In order to meet the needs of our network design and deployment teams, and to achieve enterprise class performance, Iris is being built using state-of-the-art software technologies, including Unity3d, Node.js, MongoDB and AWS.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership to team of software developers developing software using Node.JS and JavaScript in an Agile development environment
  • Function as a ‘thought leader’ and drive solutions in the Iris application.
  • Use knowledge of fiber/cable broadband networks to implement business logic into the proper design of cable networks
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements.
  • Design new software and extensions of the suite of Iris network design applications.
  • Conduct analysis to determine integration needs. Assist with the software update process for existing applications and roll-out of software releases.
  • Serve as a guide and mentor for junior-level Software Development Engineers
  • Work with Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements.
  • Support deployed environments by investigating escalated issues with deployments

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Strong working knowledge of Java Script, XML, HTML, and various No-SQL databases, especially MongoDB
  • Five to seven years experience developing software in the NodeJS framework
  • Experience writing REST API’s to support CRUD operations on data in MongoDB or other NoSQL database technology
  • Experience working in agile software development teams
  • Experience working with Github software repositories
