BE Mechelen, Belgium

Full Time

Change people’s lives and love what you do! Cochlear develops world-leading medical devices that help people hear. As a top 100 medical device company and market-leader in implantable hearing devices, more people choose a Cochlear-branded cochlear implant system than any other. Our employees tell us that the number one reason they enjoy working for Cochlear is the opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director Product Delivery, reporting to the Director, Customer Software Product Design and Delivery to be based in our Cochlear Technology Centre Belgium office.

In this pivotal role, you'll own the strategic planning, design, and successful delivery of our regulated medical device software portfolio. Partnering closely with Strategic Marketing, you'll shape the Customer Software roadmap, guide agile squads through impactful execution, and ensure products consistently meet evolving standards, protocols, and customer expectations. As an integral member of the Customer Software Leadership Team, you will contribute to defining the vision and champion continuous improvement initiatives, from advancing CI/CD methodologies and shift-left practices, to enhancing product monitoring and lifecycle management.

Collaborating across diverse teams—including Systems, Embedded Software, IT, Clinical, Regulatory, and Quality—you'll expertly manage cross-functional dependencies, define roles and responsibilities, and ensure ongoing compliance. Your leadership will empower Product Owners and Delivery Managers, fostering a culture of clarity, accountability, and proactive risk management even amidst ambiguity. Additionally, your strategic oversight will encompass squad testing protocols, CAPA processes, and maintaining the safety, effectiveness, and reliability of our field-deployed products.

Acting as the primary on-site leader and liaison between the Customer Software Leadership Team and local R&D operations, you'll champion the professional development, wellbeing, and engagement of your teams. You’ll drive global process standardization, foster transparent communication, and cultivate an environment committed to excellence and continuous learning.

Responsibilities include:

  • Craft customer-centric platform strategy and technical vision, aligning delivery to organisational goals and regulatory requirements

  • Inspire and mobilise teams by communicating a clear platform vision; coach Product Owners and Delivery Managers to elevate skills and autonomy

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to influence stakeholders, manage interdependencies, and streamline interfaces

  • Drive delivery excellence with high predictability, quality, and flow across multiple agile squads

  • Identify and mitigate risks early; own and track cross-team dependencies to ensure smooth execution

  • Champion a continuous-improvement mindset, leveraging customer feedback loops to iterate and enhance products

  • Navigate ambiguity with decisive leadership, providing clear priorities and context in a dynamic environment

  • Foster a “One Team” culture, breaking down silos and building constructive, global relationships across R&D and supporting functions

About You. As we grow our operations, we are looking for people who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential

  • Significant experience in software delivery leadership, managing Product Owners, Delivery Managers, and Program Managers

  • Deep expertise in regulated software delivery (ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, IEC 62304)

  • Strong command of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe) and hybrid models for regulated industries

  • Solid financial and commercial acumen: budgeting, capacity planning, and business-case evaluation

  • Hands-on with software delivery metrics and customer-facing KPIs to drive continuous improvement

  • Experience partnering with engineering leadership without direct line-management of engineers

  • Skilled in building, coaching, and maturing high-performing delivery and product teams

  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-disciplinary stakeholders (engineering, regulatory, quality, clinical, marketing)

  • Led or significantly contributed to organizational change—scaling Agile and optimizing processes in regulated environments

Something extra to grab our attention

  • Proficient in medical device lifecycle: verification & validation, risk management (ISO 14971), and design controls

  • Proven track record in highly regulated sectors (medical devices, healthtech, aerospace, pharma)

  • Deep familiarity with program increment (PI) planning and complex dependency management

  • Expert at leveraging customer feedback loops and delivery metrics to iterate product portfolios

Why this role is for you?

  • You thrive on empowering others and driving team success over solo achievements.

  • You’re passionate about refining structures, practices, and culture to elevate organisational performance.

  • You relish navigating complexity—balancing product vision, delivery demands, regulatory compliance, and technical challenges.

  • You measure success by the growth and trust of your high-performing teams, not personal accolades.

  • You’re ambitious to advance into a senior leadership role within a global R&D organisation.

An extensive onboarding and training program

An enjoyable work environment with attention to life-work balance and homeworking
