Cerence AI is looking for a Technical Revenue Accounting Manager to join our Finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing contract reviews to ensure compliance with ASC 606 revenue accounting standards and company policies. You will achieve cross-functional alignment with key business stakeholders on revenue accounting impacts, provide technical accounting guidance, support revenue accounting operations, and drive process and system improvement initiatives, including automation and the use of AI where applicable.
This is a hands-on role requiring subject matter expertise in ASC 606 and exceptional attention to detail. You will actively problem-solve revenue recognition issues across various teams. You’re a great fit for this role if you have a strong understanding of revenue accounting standards (ASC 606), are solution-oriented, have strong business acumen, and can simplify complex problems in your communication (both oral and written). You will have the opportunity to collaborate and gain exposure to other areas of the finance organization, including, but not limited to, accounting operations, project accounting, and financial reporting.
The qualified candidate will work closely with other groups, including Order Management, Revenue Operations, Sales Operations, Sales and Legal teams.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Manage and lead in the preparation, review, and approval of customer contracts, ensuring appropriate recognition in accordance with ASC 606, while providing support and guidance by partnering with Sales, Legal, Order Management, and Sales Operations teams on deal structure, contractual terms, and revenue guidance implementation.
· Serve as one of the company’s subject matter experts on ASC 606, owning the end-to-end revenue accounting process.
· Oversee month-end and quarter-end tasks, including preparing complex fair value allocation workbooks, journal entries, and technical memos under ASC 606, while actively managing the Technical Revenue Accounting team's daily activities, such as deal tracking, priority approvals, and transactional revenue reviews.
· Lead in the preparation of Technical Revenue Accounting ad hoc projects (SSP Analysis, Customer Life Analysis, Revenue Policies).
· Collaborate with the Project Accounting team on various tasks such as transactional revenue approvals, project revenues, project terminations and modifications.
· Continuously identify and implement improvements to revenue accounting processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
· Serve as a point of contact for external auditors regarding revenue accounting matters, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Salary
Salary range of $98,700 – 158,000. (It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. The actual salary will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors).
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting / Finance
· CPA required
· Public accounting firm / Publicly traded company background
· 6+ Years of Experience
Required Qualifications and Skills:
· Excellent interpersonal skills and team player attitude.
· Strong problem-solving and navigating a fluid and fast-paced environment.
· High-level analytical abilities and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Working knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 606, SOX, and the audit cycle of a large accelerated filer.
· Extensive knowledge of Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Visio.
· Self-motivated with the ability to manage deadlines and work efficiently and effectively in a remote-work environment.
· Careful attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
· Self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset, willing to seize opportunities for improvement and implement such improvements.
