Job Summary:
The purpose of the Pharmacy Manager position is to oversee all daily pharmacy operations and ensure compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws, rules, regulations, policies, best practices, and standard operating procedures. The position will require supervision of staff pharmacists, technicians, business, and clerical staff along with performance of staff pharmacist duties.

Qualifications:
- Pharmacy management or supervisory experience required
- Long-term Care pharmacy experience preferred
- Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharm or Pharm.D. degree preferred
- Licensed and registered pharmacist preferred
- ACPE- accredited IV certification preferred
- Computer literacy is required
- Must be able to handle high pressure situations and multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to effectively communicate, direct, and delegate tasks
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language
- Must possess good organizational, problem solving and computer skills. Must possess good written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts.
Essential Functions:
The Pharmacy Manager is, at a minimum, responsible for the following functions, either directly or through delegation to qualified staff:
- A licensed pharmacist will assume responsibilities as the Pharmacist-in-Charge.
- Ability to function as a Team Leader and Role Model of Cantex high ethical standards and code of conduct.
- Ensures delivery of quality pharmacy services to all patients and facilities.
- Resolves operational problems that impact productivity and pharmacy effectiveness.
- Assists in defining and implementing strategic plans for continued pharmacy growth and business evolution.
- Anticipates and interprets customer needs, identifies quality and service-oriented customer solutions, and shares key findings with staff.
- Support staff pharmacist in daily assignments as necessary if licensed pharmacist.
- Answers incoming communications in a timely manner and integrates other excellent customer service activities.
- Works with employees to anticipate and interpret customer needs and business challenges.
- Ensure a working environment that promotes respect and dignity among patient and staff populations
- Builds confidence and respect of others through a positive and energizing style.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all pharmacy staff, superiors, other healthcare providers and the public.
- Oversees the recruitment, selection, verification, and training of competent and appropriately licensed, registered, and/or certified department staff.
- Manages professional employees and/or supervisors, technical staff, clerical staff, and business support staff.
- Proactively identifies talent internally and externally, actively cross-trains staff, and implements succession planning strategies.
- Completes employee evaluations on an annual basis or as otherwise required and provides counseling or disciplinary action when appropriate.
- Organizes and actively participates in pharmacy meetings to review departmental issues, expense control, labor control, and any other pertinent issues as appropriate or necessary.
- Makes periodic rounds of all areas/departments to ensure, via first-hand observation, that the environment is being maintained in a safe and sanitary fashion, that systems are in place, that physical assets of the Pharmacy are maintained in good condition, and that employees are appropriately attired and receiving appropriate supervision.
- Recognizes development needs and capability gaps in pharmacy and arranges specific projects/assignments to address needs.
- Ensures that prescriptions are dispensed in accordance with all Federal and State laws and regulations, standard operating procedures and best practices, and internal policies and procedures.
- Supervises all pharmacy areas and departments, including receiving, filling, packaging, dispensing, delivery, inventory, record-keeping, loss prevention controls and security.
- Maintains appropriate inventories of pharmaceutical products and supplies, forms, and various office supplies.
- Demonstrates experience and skill in sterile and non-sterile compounding procedures.
- Provides technical guidance to employees in all areas of product preparation, clinical information management, and counseling activities.
- Able to use reference tools to evaluate patient care and answer questions posed by customers.
- Has accountability for managing pharmacys financial resources.
- Compiles data and provides cumulative reports on a routine or periodic basis as required by Director of Pharmacy or other Company officers.
- Assists the business office to ensure that adequate and timely financial records and cost reports are submitted to appropriate personnel, departments, or governmental agencies.
- Performs trouble shooting functions for third party discrepancies and other prescription filling issues.
- Ability to keep records, prepare reports, estimate costs, and perform related clerical and administrative tasks involved in the management of a pharmacy.
- Develops and helps maintain departmental computer systems and other emerging technologies.
- Sound working knowledge of all computer hardware and software in use, particularly the pharmacy operating system (POS), digital imaging software, automated dispensing systems, clinical references, other adopted medication management information systems, and Microsoft applications.
- After-hours availability and on-call duties as needed.
- Maintains current knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact pharmacy operations and personnel.
- Responsible for assuring patient/resident safety.
- Performs other duties as directed by Director of Pharmacy.
