EMS Liaison - Days 80hrs/pay period - Bronson Methodist HospitalResponsible for assisting with pre-hospital outreach through program development for BHG Service lines (Trauma Services primarily), coordination, and communication with emergency medical services (EMS). Although not directly involved in clinical care of patients, must maintain clinical proficiency as an EMT/Medical First Responder. Assists in development of policy, protocol and EMS systems maintenance and improvement. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, training as an EMT/MFR and 5 years’ experience required
Training in hazardous materials awareness, decontamination operations, and incident command required
Instructor/Coordinator license in good standing for the state of Michigan is preferred or must be obtained within 12 months from hire
Current MFR, EMT-B, EMT-S or EMT-P license in the state of Michigan preferred
• Must demonstrate excellent human relation skills, including verbal and written communication, problem solving and assertiveness
• Must demonstrate leadership and organization skills including the ability to work independently and take initiative
• Must demonstrate a positive attitude
Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.
• Responsible for developing EMS related services for BHG, the local community, other hospitals, EMS agencies, fire departments and other health care providers of Southwestern Michigan
• Assists educational and organizational needs of Bronson and regional pre-hospital providers/agencies; plans, coordinates, and develops appropriate EMS education materials and programs with training coordinators for police, fire and EMS agencies.
• Collaborates with Regional Education Coordinators
• Provides consulting services to regional EMS providers/agencies and BHG regarding EMS education, operations activities, and systems maintenance/enhancement
• Provides EMS educational programs (other than ACLS, PALS) to meet the needs of prehospital providers/customers, T&EC/Trauma Services
• Promotes BHG services, goals and philosophy to EMS and other health care professionals and to the community
• Develops and encourages a network for involving regional EMS providers as both students and instructors in health care professional education programs
• Keeps abreast of new developments in the EMS Field and maintains clinical competence as an EMT
• Maintains up to date standards of care and clinical competence as an EMT/MFR through clinical practice with pre-hospital providers and 50% clinical care in the T&EC
• Responsible for data collection including patient modes of arrival and ambulance transfers out of the organization
• Participates in emergency preparedness planning, coordination and drills
• Participates/collaborates HAZMAT education development, training and equipment maintenance with the Emergency Management Coordinator
• Maintains educational expertise and clinical competence by attending conferences or other educational activities
