Architectural Metals (Metals) is a segment within Apogee that is a provider of aluminum windows, curtainwall (soon to be retired), storefront and entrance systems. We offer an integrated set of capabilities including design, engineering, extrusion, finishing, fabrication, and assembly.

Position Summary

As Procurement Manager, you will manage the strategy execution for assigned commodity categories within the Architectural Metals procurement organization. This role will be responsible for developing and executing cost-effective procurement strategies that support business objectives, maintaining supplier performance, negotiating favorable commercial agreements, and improving and enhancing quality of purchases and timeliness of deliveries.  In this role, you will lead a team of strategic buyers to execute leveraged sourcing strategies across Architectural Metals that aligns with company priorities, growth initiatives, and minimizes business risks.  In addition, this role will serve as an on-site tactical leader representative supporting the Sr Tactical Purchasing Manager to ensure coordination with production within the Wisconsin plants.   This role will report directly to the Sr. Director of Architectural Metals Procurement. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide input for selection of strategic suppliers who have the ability to meet all Quality, Delivery, Innovation and Competitiveness priorities. Manage supplier performance against these priorities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and Enterprise Category Leaders to develop, implement, and execute strategic sourcing strategies that drive efficiency, cost savings, and process improvement.
  • Lead sourcing activity for projects following the established Architectural Metals New Product Introduction process including providing guidance on cost modeling early in the development process.
  • Provide leadership and maintain a high level of performance in carrying out the goals of the department and company utilizing KPI’s to drive results.
  • Prepare for and participate in negotiations and coordination with suppliers, including supplier visits.
  • Collaborate, provide feedback and make recommendations to Category Leads, Procurement Leadership, and other senior staff concerning supply impacts and industry trends.  Understand, track, and forecast the global supply base, market, technology, cost structure/drivers, and competition of the category.
  • Establish and maintain positive interdepartmental and intra-departmental working relationships.
  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies and policies to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Leverage data and analytics to identify opportunities for cost reduction, risk mitigation, and performance enhancement.
  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on defined category strategies and quality, cost-effectiveness, reliability, and other relevant criteria.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as managers, customers, and suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure optimal pricing, delivery, and service levels.
  • Attend production Tier Board/Gemba meetings acting as a procurement liaison for site operations and manufacturing.  Support resolution of escalated part delivery to the production line.
  • Resolution of invoice price discrepancies.
  • Assist or lead supply base rationalization efforts.

Experience & Skills

  • Education:
    • BS/BA degree in Supply Chain/Operations, Business, Economics, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or related field (master’s degree Preferred)
    • APICS CPIM Certification preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 7-10 years of related experience with 3-5 years in management
  • Required Skills:
    • Strong skills in MPR/ERP, Pull/Kanban, and Two-Bin inventory planning systems.
    • Functional knowledge of engineering documentation and manufacturing process control.
    • Experience in complex program management and cross-functional business development.
    • Effective negotiation, communication, decision making and problem-solving skills.
    • Program/Project management experience (PMP preferred)
    • Strong background in procurement technologies, including Source to Pay and third-party performance and risk management.
    • Excellent and professional communication skills in all forms and formats (public speaking, team meetings, PowerPoint, memos, emails, charters, internal/external, etc.).
