Operational Planning is a vital support service to the entirety of the operation, helping the airport meet its vision of giving passengers the best airport service in the world​ whilst facing the challenges we continuously experience as one of the busiest airports in the world. The team are responsible for creating the right planning proposition, from defining roles to building rosters, and delivering an effective and efficient plan every day. It is about understanding our capacity and making best use of it, as well as evaluating our performance so we can continuously improve.

The role will work across all areas of the operation, including Security, Services, Airport Operations and Baggage, helping the business adopt a more data-driven culture and building on its data science capabilities. The role will work with both historic data and future forecasts, looking to combine datasets to provide a clearer and enriched view of the operation on which to generate the plans and continuously drive performance improvements. The role will work with and influence a wide range of operational teams, providing trusted support, and drive continuous improvement initiatives, and will be a key contributor to the Plan-Do-Review process.

This is a Monday to Friday role.

  • You will be part of a Modelling and Data Analytics team that plays a key role in turning operational, passenger, and airline data into actionable insights that help us optimise airport capacity, improve passenger experience, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Working closely with operational planners, scheduling teams, and stakeholders across the airport, you will develop reports, models, and visualisations that inform everything from daily operations to long-term capacity planning.
  • Forming a close collaborative relationship with the planning teams to help them understand plan versus actual performance and provide data to support assumption changes.
  • Unlocking data through storytelling and making it accessible to the business, helping drive a move to a self-service, data led culture.
  • Analysing operational performance, enabling continuous improvement through the investigation of the root cause of issues and embedding findings into the models and plans.
  • Combining different datasets with qualitative data to derive meaningful new insights into performance and work collaboratively across functions to deliver business benefits around capacity, efficiency, and service.

Growing a deep analytical understanding of the end-to-end passenger journey, establishing performance correlations and identifying improvement 

  • Highly analytical  ability to break down complex issues into a logical approach, with any conclusions supported by data and facts.
  • Comfortable and confident with data. Strong experience with data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Excel, Python, R).
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders to understand and meet their needs, whilst working collaboratively to deliver the best business outcomes.
  • Skilled communicator and storyteller able to structure and present analysis, reports & dashboards in a clear and concise manner that gain trust and buy in from stakeholders and clearly conveys the required message.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and decision making whilst working in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Experience on continuous improvement through problem solving and innovation with ability to turn analytical outcomes into to usable models and tools, ideally based on a background of statistical knowledge.

Ideally, you’ll also have: 

  • Knowledge and understanding of airport operations

Working Location

Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of HeathrowWorking arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You’ll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
