Description

The English Department Writing Program (EDWP) is accepting applications for the position of Director of the English Department Writing Program. This position will be filled at the level of Lecturer III or Lecturer IV. The appointment is for a four-year term, renewable at the discretion of the department and the College of LSA. The Director will serve nine months out of each year (September through May), with the Associate Director of EDWP serving as Acting Director during the summer (June through August).

Qualifications

We seek candidates who have demonstrated:

successful completion of two Major Reviews as a Lecturer at the University of Michigan, e.g.,

a Lecturer II who has passed 2 major reviews
a Lecturer III who has passed 2 major reviews as a Lecturer II
a Lecturer IV

effective teaching of a broad range of writing courses offered through EDWP
effective mentoring of students and other teachers
expertise in navigating AI in writing classrooms and an interest in helping instructors to think carefully and critically about the impact of AI in the writing classroom
experience with curricular development
experience with offering professional development for Graduate Student Instructors, Lecturer Faculty, and Tenure-Track Faculty involved with teaching writing courses

During fall 2025, final-round applicants will be asked to deliver a talk followed by a Q&A. The talk should describe both how the applicant approaches teaching writing courses at UM and how the applicant approaches supporting other instructors. The anticipated start date for the Director position is January 1, 2026.
