The primary objective of this role is to lead the development of business strategies, financial plans, risk assessment & control, performance measurement & monitoring, and business reporting.
GTB has a headcount of ~115 plus ~35 outsourced staff and has the highest revenue of all product groups. The VP - Strategy and Governance provides critical support to the GTB Head across multiple parameters, to ensure that this large, strategic business has a strong and resilient platform.
Given the scale of the GTB business, the role is of significant scale and complexity. It is a high-profile role and involves direct interaction with senior managers of the bank within and outside GTB.
Overview
The incumbent is a member of the Global Transaction Banking (GTB) Management Team and works closely with the GTB leaders to develop and execute a comprehensive set of plans covering every area of the business, and then implements the performance metrics, measurement systems and reporting to track actual performance against key plans. The incumbent also takes the lead on setting up the processes, guidelines, and operating procedures for running the GTB business.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate Strategies & Plans – work with GTB Head and other key stakeholders to develop and get alignment strategies and plans for the overall GTB business, take the lead on specific strategy and planning exercises, form working groups, develop the overall strategy framework, and coordinate project deliverables and team inputs. Act as the central point of coordination with BUs and Finance functions on group-wide planning exercises - working directly with CIBG and IBG Chief of Staff and Finance teams to prepare annual budgets for the business (revenue, investment and cost). Organise research and analyze market data to build the financial models and commercials (addressable wallet, volume and revenue projections, etc.) to support the plans and coordinate all GTB Special projects and new initiatives.
- Develop Business Analytics and Provide Strategic Analysis on Business Performance – liaise with Finance, Data Analytics, Technology and Operations plus other internal/external sources to acquire key data sets and collaborate on building of specific models to support the business (e.g. transaction flow monitoring, product performance, lead generation, etc.). Prepare management presentations and dashboards for business update discussions with senior management, including GCEO and GH level. Ensure timely production of business performance reports, along with actionable analytics to point the team towards revenue opportunities and highlight risks to the business. Design and deploy tools that support deeper understanding of product/country performance, including cross-sell, NIM/fees analysis, sales productivity etc. Ensure diligent Cost planning - Develop a process which enables GTB to spend pre-approved amounts on travel, entertainment, team building, training etc, while ensuring a suitable C/I ratio for the business and overall cost discipline
- Implement Performance Management – work with key stakeholder to agree KPIs, business metrics and reports to monitor performance against targets and plans. Build databases, tools and reports to keep management appraised on actual versus planned performance. Analyze results and highlight both positive and negative trends so the GTB Management Team can take remedial action or exploit growth opportunities. Work with Data Analytics and external vendors to automate as much of this reporting as possible
- Identify Product Innovation Opportunities – gather regular feedback on competitors offering and market developments. Maintain and track industry trends, database subscriptions, and research. Circulate relevant research and identify specific areas that GTB should be reviewing to keep ahead of the market including potential platforms and partnering opportunities
- Drive Employee Engagement – Lead GTB’s employee engagement initiatives including developing Actions Plans to improve EES scores. Ensure diligent follow-up on committed actions by all members of the GTB Management Team. Develop engagement improvement plans, L&D strategies, workplace improvements etc. Coordinate execution of all HR initiatives including L&D, diversity, and team building activity including townhalls
- Uphold Business Disciplines - Oversee GTB’s adherence to all risk, compliance and audit matters. Ensure that all team meetings covering Risk, Compliance and Audit are held with the right cadence and content
- Minimum 7 years in business analyst or similar role
- Good working knowledge of wholesale banking (ideally in transaction banking)
- Strong understanding of accounting and finance
- Strong strategic planning and planning skills
- Strong analytical and modeling capabilities
