Advanced Houston Specialty Hospital is looking for a Medical Records Technician to work at our newly renovated facility at 205 Hollow Tree Lane, Spring, TX.

Position Summary:

The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for the accurate collection, organization, and maintenance of medical records within a secure correctional healthcare setting. This position ensures confidentiality, compliance, and timely documentation handling to support patient care and legal requirements.

Essential Functions:

  1. Collect, file, and maintain health records for incarcerated individuals in compliance with facility, state, and federal regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
  2. Retrieve and deliver charts and documents to clinical staff as requested.
  3. Prepare, organize, and file medical documents such as progress notes, lab reports, orders, and outside consultations.
  4. Process medical records requests from internal departments, external providers, or legal entities with proper authorization.
  5. Maintain accurate logs and tracking systems for records movement and chart completion.
  6. Support the intake and release process by ensuring health records are created, updated, and archived appropriately.
  7. Audit charts for completeness and flag missing documentation for correction.
  8. Respond to record-related inquiries while upholding strict confidentiality and security.
  9. Operate electronic medical records (EMR) systems and perform data entry with a high degree of accuracy.
  10. Follow facility policies regarding safety, security, and patient privacy at all times.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her scope of work as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 2 years of medical records experience required preferably in a hospital environment. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements:

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements to include physical agility test and pass an annual background check.
