Description:

Circulation Assistants staff the Learning Curve desk in Myrin Library for a minimum of 5 hours per week and up to 20 hours per week; the schedule is set each semester based on student schedules. Training is required. There are three tiers of Circulation Assistants, with increasing responsibility for training new student assistants, helping patrons with technology support, and being assigned special projects. Promotions are made based on length of time employed, display of knowledge of increasingly sophisticated tasks, and maturity in working with patrons and with fellow students.

Responsibilities:

Circulation duties include, but are not limited to: greeting and assisting patrons who come to the desk; checking materials (books, laptops, adapters, etc.) in and out; re-shelving returned materials and shelf reading the stacks to ensure accuracy of arrangement; providing front-line technology support; retrieving holds, reserve and interlibrary loan materials; processing interlibrary loan materials; accepting payment for fines; checking patron records; adding new patron records; and answering phones. 

Requirements:

  • Current full-time student at Ursinus College
  • friendly and professional demeanor
  • ability to work well with others
  • ability to work early mornings, nights and weekends
  • ability to respond courteously to patrons
  • willingness to learn
  • interest in librarianship as a potential career is a plus
