Description

  Corporate EHS Director

The Corporate EHS Director provides strategic leadership and oversight of the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across all locations. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations, while driving a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement. The Director will establish corporate policies, implement standardized EHS management systems, and serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.


PMR is one of the largest non-ferrous metal merchants, polymer, and processors in the United States.  Headquartered in East Hartford, CT, PMR operates state of the art processing facilities in Canastota, NY, South Windsor, CT, and Orangeburg, SC. In addition, our other business entities are Fluoropolymer Resources, North Windham, CT, Allied Metals, Miami, FL IMC Metals America & Ames Copper Group, Shelby, NC.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

· Develop and implement corporate EHS strategy aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

· Establish enterprise-wide EHS standards, programs, and performance metrics to ensure consistency across multiple sites.

· Partner with executive leadership to integrate EHS initiatives into business operations and long-term planning.


Compliance & Risk Management

· Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, etc.).

· Oversee EHS audits, inspections, and risk assessments across facilities.

· Develop corrective action plans and monitor progress toward resolution.

· Manage corporate reporting for regulatory agencies and ensure timely submission of permits, records, and reports.


Program Development & Implementation

· Lead development of corporate-wide training programs on safety, environmental practices, and emergency preparedness.

· Standardize incident investigation procedures and ensure root-cause analysis is performed consistently.

· Oversee corporate sustainability and environmental responsibility initiatives, including waste reduction, recycling, and emissions control.

· Implement technology and systems to track EHS performance, near misses, and compliance data.


Leadership & Culture

· Provide leadership and coaching to site EHS Manager and Safety Coordinators.

· Build a strong safety-first culture through communication, recognition, and accountability.

· Act as a liaison between corporate leadership and site-level teams to ensure consistent EHS priorities.

· Represent the company in interactions with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and external stakeholders. required.

Requirements

  

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive EHS leadership experience, including multi-site responsibility.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, and other relevant regulations.
  • Experience with EHS management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, etc.) preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in leading change, driving compliance, and building a safety culture.

Certifications

Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent strongly preferred.

Ability to influence at all levels of the organization, including executive leadership.

Analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on risk mitigation and continuous improvement.

Ability to travel regularly to multiple company locations.


Physical Demands & Work Environment

· Ability to work in office and industrial environments, including manufacturing and recycling facilities.

· Occasional exposure to noise, dust, heat, and moving equipment during site visits.

· Travel will be up to 40% of the time.
