The Senior Manager, Marketing Data Strategy, Analytics & Activation plays both a strategic leadership and hands-on role in maximizing the power of customer data, advanced analytics, and performance & behavioral insights in the execution of marketing programs and campaigns.
The candidate will bring expertise in marketing, analytics, storytelling, and project management to drive data-informed decision-making, focus the marketing team on the highest impact opportunities, and ensure operational and financial accuracy of the full marketing funnel from the media channels through website performance and sales conversion. This role will work cross-functionally to elevate marketing’s thought leadership, optimize team performance, and drive a measurable impact on business outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Infrastructure
- Lead the development and execution of a holistic marketing data strategy, including building a customer data platform (CDP) that collects, unifies, and organizes a 360-degree view of the customer into a single, centralized database and single customer identifiers (eg, golden customer records).
- Partner with IT, data engineering & analytics, and marketing to design and evolve our marketing data infrastructure, data models, data standards & taxonomies, and tagging – which will enhance diagnostic, marketing attribution, and performance reporting.
- Integrate martech capabilities such as ad platforms, automated campaign & journey tools, data transformation workflows, and machine-learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI)-based tools with customer scoring, multi-channel marketing activation, and customer experience workflows.
Marketing Analytics & Insights
- Generate customer demographic, behavioral, and attitudinal insights that transform and shape brand strategy, marketing calendars, audience targeting, creative & copy personalization, and marketing tactics.
- Develop advanced segmentation, enriched customer & prospect profiles with 3rd party data attributes, and predictive models to improve targeting and personalization.
- Drive end-to-end marketing performance gap analysis & performance management processes:
- Define campaign KPIs and dashboards, tracking, attribution modeling, ROI analysis, and funnel reporting to provide holistic insights across all digital channels (SEO, SEM, Paid Social, Display/Programmatic, Website, and Email).
- Conduct and lead weekly performance reviews that help optimize media spend levels & allocations, campaign frequency, channel mix, customer engagement, etc. and help team members achieve or exceed weekly, monthly, and quarterly goals.
- Drive high-impact performance storytelling on trends, insights, wins & opportunities related to consumer behaviors, seasonality, marketing channel results, and the potential impacts of competition, pricing, or any operational factors impacting business results such as funnel CVRs, CAC, CLTV, ROAS and ROI.
- Develop, distribute, and present custom weekly, monthly & quarterly performance reports for the marketing team, internal stakeholders, and executive leadership.
- Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights and communicate findings to marketing, product, and executive stakeholders.
Audience Activation & Campaign Optimization
- Lead the audience strategy and activation framework across digital, email, paid media, and owned channels.
- Identify opportunities for A/B testing, multivariate testing, and experimentation to refine marketing strategies and performance.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Expense Management
- Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to drive process efficiencies in consolidated performance reporting, budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, and reconciliation of expenses to ensure alignment with the department’s overall P&L targets.
- Provide backup support, variance analysis, and explanations as needed for marketing expenditures and marketing performance efficiencies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or a related field preferred or equivalent practical experience.
- 7-10 years of experience driving quantitative, analytical, data mining, and operational performance reporting processes with customer, marketing and/or digital marketing data.
- Ability to join & combine data from Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta/Facebook, DSP/programmatic tools, Google Analytics, Microsoft PowerBI, SEMRush, and bid management platforms such SA360, Marin, Skai, or Fluency with operational, financial and transactional data to generate performance insights and inform strategic decisions.
- Exceptional skills working with large datasets, using advanced excel functions, and simplifying complicated & complex data into simple, easy-to-understand insights.
- Excellent communication & presentation skills to effectively share performance insights for different audiences and purposes (eg, performance updates for executive leadership, action planning with marketing team members, etc.).
- Experience with building, maintaining, and using dashboards and data visuals in Power BI, Tableau, and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Comfort with juggling multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with cross-functional project team leadership and project management tools such as Jira, Monday.com, or Asana.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience with building SQL queries, developing statistical, machine learning or predictive models, and/or working with BigQuery in a marketing and customer analytics context.
