Position Summary
The Research Technician II will be responsible for production, expression and optimization of e. Coli expressed proteins. This includes molecular biology (PCR, cloning, etc), protein expression and purification. Assays using these proteins, including enzyme kinetic assays, using fluorescent plate reader.
In addition, processing clinical samples (blood) for clinical trials and then enzyme kinetic assays. Data analyses, interpretation and preparation of graphs, tables and reports will also be required.
Duties:
- Transport samples to PI's research lab, and to other collaborators within UHN.
- Molecular biology to optimize protein expression
- Protein expression
- Protein purification
- Protein characterization
- Enzyme kinetics
- Protease assays on clinical samples (blood/plasma) or sourced plasma
- Analyze and interpret data including statistical analyses, in collaboration with biostatistician
- Assist team members with other aspects of the clinical studies
Qualifications
- BSc in Cell Biology or equivalent; MSc preferred
- Minimum 3 years related experience
- Experience isolating plasma from peripheral blood
- Intermediate molecular biology skills, including PCR, ELISA, and blotting
- Experience in Protein purification and enzyme Kinetics
- Excellent documentation skills
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills
- Experience with statistical software and packages
