This role is HYBRID (3 days a week) in the Schaumburg Il Office.
The Lead Systems Engineer handles a combination of post-sales field deployable engineering activities as well as pre-sales design and consulting activities; to maintain skills and certifications and to engage in engineering laboratory research and technology development. The Lead Systems Engineer provides guidance and mentoring in line with the team goals and objectives. The Lead Systems Engineer works to maintain a high level of billable utilization, which is a combination of customer onsite and remote installation and system deployment, configuration, system troubleshooting, performance optimization and documentation. This Lead System Engineer position is focused on one or more of the following: networking, security, cloud, or mobility technology, but must also possess and maintain competency in certain adjacent technologies such as operating systems and business applications. The Lead Systems Engineer maintains the required level of competency and certifications in relevant product and technology.
Responsibilities
- Provides expert consultation for the design, architecture, development, and implementation of highly complex technology solutions. Performs discovery and information gathering assessments of highly complex environments using expert-level assessment toolsets.
- Designs highly complex technical solutions from a set of customer requirements and delivers those solutions based on the completed design and statement of work
- Designs and delivers highly available and highly scalable solutions to support the needs of end customers.
- Attends meetings with highly technical customers and industry experts to roadmap the vendor’s value proposition and our services value proposition.
- Provides project leadership and oversight; completes complex technical integrations and delivers billable consulting, and systems deployments within deadlines and budget.
- Captures high-level certifications and maintains several core technology competencies by going to training and studying for certification exams.
- Works with technology partners and vendors for highly complex technology services and support.
- Creates high-level professional services documentation including solution design documents, infrastructure diagrams, installation plans, technical project plans, checklists, end-state documentation, and business consulting reports.
- Transfers knowledge to customer’s technical staff on systems and technologies installed
- Provides oversight, guidance, and mentoring for 2-4 Systems Engineers within the practice.

- CCIE Required.
- Splunk experience and/or certification preferred.
- Pre-sales (high-end complex solution assessment and design) and post-sales (high-end complex installation, configuration, troubleshooting) technical expertise with advanced technologies.
- Expert level experience with servers, storage, networking, virtualization, and data protection and converged technologies.
- Extensive experience troubleshooting technical issues in a highly complex technological environment.
- Basic operational business knowledge including understanding of basic financial record keeping, profit and loss, reporting structure, chain of command, approvals and workflows, problem solving, creation of project proposals and business justification.
- Advanced technical communication skills with ability to translate technology related jargon to diverse groups of technical and non- technical users.
- Advanced business needs and systems analysis technique with ability to make excellent technical decisions based on deep assessment and insight into the customer environment.
- Strong analytical thinking, complex problem solving, appropriate judgment, and decision-making skills, including the ability to solve problems using inductive and deductive reasoning.
- Adaptable ability to switch tasks based on shifting priorities.
- Analytical skills with ability to draw conclusions from data, using systematic and rational processes.
- Interpersonal skills with ability to work well with all levels of the organization.
