SUMMARY: Coordinates all aspects of the admissions process, working with the Regional Healthcare Managers to ensure timely and clinically/financially appropriate inpatient admissions. Works with various departments in the hospital to prepare for patient admission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following.
Coordinates completion of all tasks related to inpatient admission
Reviews the clinical information of referral with the RHCM to determine the following:
- Level of care/type of insurance authorization
- Patient meets clinical criteria for admission
- Proper bed placement based on diagnosis and medical needs
- Ordering of appropriate supplies
Coordinate admission arrival with RHCM
Acts as conduit for information between Regional Healthcare Managers and internal clinical staff
Uploads clinical information into Expanse for hospital-wide communication.
Interacts with patient/families to provide information regarding admission
Obtains Financial Authorization
Obtains benefit information on referrals from the Admissions Intake Rep
Obtains financial authorization on clinically accepted referrals
Reviews all financial information in computer for accuracy
Contacts insurance case managers to discuss clinical issues impacting financial clearance if able
Financial Stewardship of Gaylord Hospital
Monitoring for qualifying stay, interrupted stay, and coordination of benefits
Communicate out of pocket expenses to RHCM/patient/family
Identify possible non-formulary medications- clarify if there are alternatives
Question planned non-urgent out-trips with acute care hospitals.
Actively participates in Admissions Department operations
Documents all data points in Expanse for department trending purposes including but not limited to acute care admissions date, referral date, appropriate program, reason for visit
Attends and participates in Admissions staff meetings
Assists in orientation and training of new Admissions staff members
Complies with all Admissions policies and procedures
Acquires and maintains skills and knowledge regarding Admissions through participation in relevant educational programs
Serves on hospital-wide committees and projects

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree required, Bachelor’s degree (BA) from four year college or university preferred; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five or more years experience in the rehabilitation field
- LPN, RN, BSN, PT/PTA, OT/COTA, Respiratory Therapist
- Understanding of medical criteria for admission screening, use of computers, financial resources and payment issues.
