The Opportunity
We are seeking a talented, dedicated, passionate and motivated individual with experience working in a research laboratory in academia or the biopharma industry to be part of the Biohub NY as the Assistant Lab Manager. This role supports the Laboratory Manager in overseeing day-to-day laboratory operations, with a focus on equipment management, inventory management, compliance, and operational efficiency. Key responsibilities include coordinating equipment service and preventative maintenance, calibrating and troubleshooting sensitive instruments, and assisting with the procurement and installation of scientific goods.
What You'll Do
- Laboratory Equipment Management: Assist with planning, acquisition, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and record-keeping for laboratory equipment and instruments; manage service contracts and coordinate preventative maintenance.
- Procurement and Inventory: Support the acquisition of reagents, consumables, and equipment; manage inventory, storage, and restocking of shared consumables and reagents.
- Compliance and Safety: Support activities that ensure staff adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as company policies governing laboratory practices, equipment use, and workplace conduct.
- Operational Coordination: Partner with Operations, Finance, and Legal to ensure laboratory activities and staff purchases align with internal controls and policies.
- Logistics and Facilities: Oversee shipping, receiving, and logistics for scientific goods and equipment; coordinate installation when needed; liaise with building/landlord staff to ensure compliance with facility procedures.
- Documentation and SOPs: Assist in drafting and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory practices, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks to support laboratory operations as assigned.
What You'll Bring
Essential –
- BS/MS Biology, Chemistry or equivalent field.
- 1-2 years’ experience in a biological, molecular biology, chemical or similar laboratory facility, preferably as a lab technician, assistant, or comparable position.
- Experience using and maintaining laboratory instruments.
- Experience handling chemicals.
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A desire to hone managerial and operational skills and combine them with technical skills and knowledge.
Nice to have –
- Hands-on experience operating and maintaining flow cytometry instruments and/or cell sorters.
- Knowledge of and experience applying environmental health and safety (EH&S) standards in biomedical research laboratories, in compliance with requirements in the NYC area.
Compensation
The New York City, NY base pay range for this role is $50,000.00 - $77.000.00. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process.
