Avegant is seeking Field Application Engineer - AR Display Technologies in Taiwan (Hsinchu or Taipei preferred) to support growing AR display customer demand in Asia. The position will be filled by a highly motivated individual capable of working autonomously from Avegant's US headquarters and across our engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams. As a Field Application Engineer (FAE), you will be the primary technical interface for our AR display customers and ecosystem partners in Taiwan and greater Asia. You’ll support the integration of our advanced light engines and display modules into AR products, helping customers overcome hardware and system-level challenges. This role requires a solid foundation in optics, electronics, and basic mechanical design, as well as a hands-on problem-solving approach and the ability to collaborate across diverse technical teams. This position reports to the Head of Sales & Business Development.
The base salary range for this position is USD$50,000-75,000 (NT$1,500,000-2,250,000), depending on experience.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with customers during pre-sales and development phases to support system architecture, optical path design, and display integration.
- Provide in-depth technical guidance on the use of our AR light engine modules, including power, thermal, mechanical, and optical alignment considerations.
- Review and interpret mechanical drawings and 3D models to ensure proper mechanical integration and alignment of optical components.
- Support design-for-assembly and manufacturability discussions with customer and internal teams.
- Conduct product evaluations, proof-of-concept builds, and performance characterization in customer labs or on-site.
- Troubleshoot integration challenges related to display performance, image quality, or system compatibility.
- Prepare and deliver technical documentation, design guides, and product training.
- Act as the voice of the customer to internal R&D, feeding back critical insights on product improvements and roadmap priorities.
- Travel within Asia especially China (~20–30%) for customer support.
Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a customer-facing technical role (FAE, systems engineering, or R&D) in display, optics, or imaging industries.
- Solid understanding of microdisplay technologies (LCOS, MicroLED, OLED), waveguides, optical combiners, or projection optics.
- Working knowledge of mechanical integration concepts and 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or NX) is a strong plus.
- Experience with lab tools and measurement systems (e.g., collimators, integrating spheres, image analyzers).
- Familiarity with display drivers, embedded systems, and electrical interfaces (MIPI, I2C, SPI) is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly in both Mandarin and English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with AR/VR or wearable device customers.
- Understanding of key optical metrics such as brightness, contrast, MTF, eyebox, FOV, and distortion correction.
- Exposure to AR system software pipelines, image rendering, or calibration tools is a bonus.
