Job Description:

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is a premier provider of high-tech IT solutions to the federal government IT market. Together as GDIT we collectively deliver cost-effective, next-generation IT solutions and services to the Department of Defense, the intelligence community, and federal civilian agencies as they modernize their information systems.

GDIT currently has an 80+ person team providing systems development, operational and infrastructure support, and application support to the Administrative Systems Office (ASO) of the Administrative Office (AO) of the US Courts. The GDIT team is currently seeking a Platform Engineer to join a dynamic team tasked with supporting various applications in support of the AO.

This position will potentially support one or more of the following key areas for the applications and for the organization –

  • Documentation
  • Interface development and maintenance
  • Software data and transition
  • Data management
  • Configuration management
  • Security and data integration support
  • Alternate site and data/disaster recovery support

Duties and Responsibilities:

The candidate will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and provide dedicated Platform Support to the team as outlined below:

  • Follow and remain compliant with all Judiciary and Federal IT Security standards, policies, and reporting requirements, including the Judiciary Information Security Framework (JISF), all National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards and guidelines, Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), and other U.S. Governmental laws and regulations for the protection and security of Government.
  • Work with development resources and security organizations on security and information assurance compliance, i.e., coordinate quarterly scans and mitigate scan results.
  • Assist with ensuring hosted solutions compliance with FedRAMP where necessary.
  • Keep secure and sensitive data behind the AO firewall with access only to authorized Judiciary users.
  • Configuration management related to all aspects of the server and network infrastructure and elements of the software stack.
  • Working with other organizations to request and coordinate changes to server, network, and software elements.
  • Work with development resources on the installation and configuration of deployments.
  • Resolving trouble reports and the resolution of outages.
  • Ensuring products/components operate as required and satisfy performance requirements.
  • Keeping all production support documentation up to date including administrator and user documentation, training materials (as required), and other logistics documentation.
  • Testing and implementation of upgrades and new versions, including Service Packs.
  • Completing post-production checklists.
  • Supporting OS installation, configuration, patching, and compliance reporting. Performing configuration and patching in some instances.
  • Supporting Logging and System Monitoring (e.g., SPLUNK/SolarWinds or other packages).
  • Coordinating Backups and Recovery (Tape/Externally maintained Media, Oracle Recovery Manager functionality, Net Backup, Tivoli).
  • Providing Database Administrator (DBA) support – installation, configuration, patching, compliance reporting.
  • Provide services in support of maintenance updates to COOP, support for at least one disaster recovery exercise annually, and at least one actual failover event annually.
  • Ability to coordinate with teaming partner(s) or subcontractor(s) on various products and services provided as directed by the government client.
  • Document status on tasks daily.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies:

  • Five (5) plus years of relevant infrastructure support experience, preferably with a major federal IT system.
  • Experience and knowledge in principles and practices of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
  • MS administration experience (permissions, running scripts, cron jobs, mounting drives, Firewall rules). j
  • Windows administration experience (file shares/mounted drives).
  • Experience working with MySQL database.
  • Familiarity with Redis.
  • Familiarity with Apache Solr.
  • Experience working in a load-balanced environment.
  • Understanding of IT practices, service management, governance frameworks, and industry standards (i.e., ITIL, ITSM, COBIT, ISO).  
  • Proficiency in business tools, such as, Word, Excel, Power-Point, Visio, SharePoint, Teams, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and without adequate guidance.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and present findings in a clear and easily understood manner.
  • Ability to present recommendations for consideration and influence as needed.

Specialized Experience:

  • Working knowledge of IT tracking tools, preferably Jira.

Education and Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and 10+ years of experience.

The likely salary range for this position is $108,979 - $147,443. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
