Equipped with an array of skills in data science, engineering, and analytics, this team orchestrates the flow of data across our growing company while ensuring data accessibility, accuracy, and security. About the Role

Workday is seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager for the Data & AI Platforms Portfolio within EDATA at Workday. You will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic execution of our Data and AI initiatives. You will be responsible for leading complex, cross-functional programs, ensuring alignment with business objectives, and delivering high-impact solutions. You will work closely with technology partners, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders across the organization to bring cutting-edge Data and AI capabilities to life.Responsibilities:Program Leadership:
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex data, software engineering or technology programs, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocation strategies.  
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks and issues, ensuring smooth program execution.
  • Manage program dependencies and ensure effective communication across all stakeholders.
Data and AI Platform Focus:
  • Drive the data platform program roadmap by collaborating with data engineers, architects, and product managers to define, prioritize, and execute initiatives for data ingestion, processing, and serving.
  • Manage program execution and tracking for all data platform projects, using metrics and dashboards to monitor progress, identify risks, and ensure timely delivery against key milestones.
  • Ensure platform stability and scalability by leading programs focused on improving data platforms, reliability, and security. Proactively manage technical debt and system dependencies.
  • Facilitate the adoption of data platform services by partnering with internal customers to understand their needs, gather requirements, and lead the development of self-service tools and documentation.
  • Drive the development and implementation of AI/ML models and solutions, ensuring alignment with Workday's enterprise AI strategy.
  • Facilitate the integration of AI/ML models into Workday's data platforms and applications.
Stakeholder Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including data scientists, engineers, product managers, and business leaders.
  • Communicate program status, risks, and issues to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and ensure alignment across teams.
Portfolio & Program Management:
  • Contribute to the overall EDATA portfolio and program management strategy.
  • Provide input into resource planning and prioritization decisions.
  • Track and report on program performance metrics.

About You

Business Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in Technical Program Management, with a focus on driving transformations at Enterprise Scale

  • 5+ years of experience with data and analytics platforms

  • 5+ years of experience with software engineering concepts and technologies

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience working collaboratively with third-party vendors, ML/data/platform engineers, software engineers, product development, and operations teams

  • Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional programs

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies

  • Strong understanding of data governance and security principles

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to influence and mentor others

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment

  • Experience in the SaaS industry preferable

  • Certifications in program management (e.g., PMP, PgMP) are a plus

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
