As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will serve as a recognized technical expert in designing, developing, and integrating complex electrical systems for Medtronic's innovative Cardiac Ablation Solutions products. This role offers the opportunity to lead large, strategic projects, influence technical direction, and contribute directly to life-changing technologies. You will work cross-functionally with teams in mechanical engineering, software development, quality assurance, and manufacturing to drive projects from concept through production, while mentoring engineers and guiding technical decision-making.
The Cardiac Ablations Solutions Unit develops life-restoring therapies and healthcare solutions that span the care continuum; integrating technologies and applying clinical and economic evidence to increase patient access, improve efficiency of procedures and deliver successful patient outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, and testing of advanced electrical systems and circuits for medical devices, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory standards (e.g., IEC 60601).
Define technical strategies, establish timelines, and oversee deliverables for large, complex projects.
Develop detailed specifications, schematics, and PCB layouts, ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.
Direct system-level integration of hardware, firmware, and software, resolving complex technical challenges.
Drive root cause analysis, risk assessments, and implementation of robust corrective and preventive actions.
Manage product changes and related change control activities, ensuring accurate design documentation.
Partner with reliability, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to optimize designs for scalability, cost efficiency, and high performance.
Lead verification and validation activities for complex systems and subsystems.
Influence product roadmaps and contribute to technical standards and best practices.
Mentor and coach engineers, fostering technical excellence across the organization.
Represent the company as a subject matter expert in internal and external technical forums
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive experience in medical device or highly regulated industries.
Expertise in advanced analog, digital, high-voltage (~5 kV), or RF circuit design.
Deep understanding of EMC design and test principles per IEC 60601.
Proven success in leading cross-functional technical teams.
Strong track record of innovation, patents, or technical publications.
Proficiency with simulation and CAD tools for PCB design (e.g., Minitab, MATLAB, SPICE, Altium, Cadence).
Experience developing hardware test systems for design verification or production testing.
Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean, or other structured problem-solving methodologies.
Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
