Job Description Summary

PURPOSE:

The Lazarus Engaged Learning Assistantship is an opportunity for students to gain real world experience while serving their community, allowing students to stand out when applying for a job post-graduation. As students’ progress through the program, sustainable solution initiatives and professional opportunities vary and may include art direction; development of art for clients; coordination of collaborative opportunities between Ringling College and non-profits; and- through required trainings- the development of organization, leadership, communication, problem solving, and collaborative/team work skills. Students are encouraged to enter this program with an open mind, and willingness to learn about the community partner’s values, initiatives, strengths, and challenges.

By their second year, students will identify an approved non-profit community partner that they wish to serve for the remaining time in the program and will work towards identifying a capstone project to address a specific need, issue, or challenge for the community partner to be completed in their Third Year. Students’ service hours will directly reflect their time serving, communicating and collaborating with their non-profit partner, with the addition of other service opportunities sought out.

In their fourth year, they will work to ensure their project is sustainable, and continue to serve their partner for the remainder of the year.

Students will serve the community for a minimum of 3 hours/week.

The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the job:

RESULTS/MEASURES:

  • This position will provide opportunities for Ringling College students to serve a specific local non-profit community partner, and engage and recruit peers to get involved during Saturday Days of Service (SDOS) or other service opportunities.

  • The student in collaboration with the non-profit community partner will identify a capstone project to be completed during the student’s Third Year.

  • The partnerships that students build with non-profit organizations aim to not only serve the community partner, but also develop creative sustainable solutions for the organization and community. 

  • We will measure the success of this position through self and partner evaluations, and pre- and post- evaluations of the identified challenge, issue, or interest alongside the implemented project

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve the local community for no less than 3 hours per week during the semester

  • Learn about their identified non-profit community partner through consistent service with the organization, meetings, and research

  • In collaboration with the non-profit partner, identify a capstone project that meets a need for the community partner and can be accomplished during the students’ Third Year

  • Partner with the Americorps VISTA and / or Student Volunteerism and Service-Learning Associate for one SDOS per month, and assist in leading the post-service reflection

  • Communicate with community partners and supervisor

  • Assist with the coordination, set-up and break-down of SDOS and other Department service opportunities

  • Assist to expand involvement of Ringling College student artists into community and vice versa

  • Collaborate and communicate with other Lazarus students

  • Assist with clerical and promotional activities (i.e. designing visual aids, etc.) related to position

  • Provide a benefit to the Sarasota area

  • Provide consistent service to the non-profit partner

  • Be punctual and serve non-profit according to agreed-upon schedule

  • Track hours and submit via Workday and Ringlink bi-weekly, and upload any documentation for virtual service

  • Complete end of semester self-evaluation and partner evaluation

  • Must adhere to and follow the Student Code of Conduct, found in the Ringling College of Art and Design Student Handbook, at all times will participating in Lazarus Engaged Learning events, programs, and service

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Must possess a commitment to community service

  • Must be highly organized

  • Must be dependable and able work as scheduled

  • Must be punctual and behave professionally

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in various settings

  • Must formally apply for the Lazarus Engaged Learning Assistantship and meet all application requirements

  • Must maintain good standing with all Lazarus Engaged Learning Assistantship program requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be enrolled as a student of Ringling College of Art and Design

  • Open to all majors
