Job Title: Food Runner
Position Summary:
The Food Runner plays a vital role in the guest dining experience by working closely with the kitchen to ensure timely and accurate delivery of food to the dining area. This role is responsible for ensuring all dishes are properly portioned, garnished, and presented according to standards, moving seamlessly from kitchen to guest in a smooth and efficient manner.
Hourly Rate - $16.50
Primary Responsibilities
1. Food Delivery & Presentation
◦ Expedites and delivers food orders from the kitchen to guests in a timely, professional manner.
◦ Ensures all plates leaving the kitchen meet established presentation, portion, and quality standards.
2. Dining Room Support
◦ Maintains a clean, safe, and organized dining environment.
◦ Assists with resetting tables, clearing dirty dishes, and maintaining guest comfort as needed.
3. Communication & Coordination
◦ Keeps wait staff informed of kitchen wait times, menu changes, and any product shortages.
◦ Accurately communicates menu details and daily specials to guests when requested.
4. Safety & Sanitation
◦ Adheres to all food handling, sanitation, and health department regulations.
◦ Wears required non-slip, oil-resistant footwear and complies with hotel safety protocols, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to HAZMAT procedures.
◦ Reports any unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or potential hazards immediately.
5. Professionalism & Attendance
◦ Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance.
◦ Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of this role.
Additional Duties
• May assist with bussing, setting tables, and transporting dirty dishes to the dishwashing area.
• Resolves guest concerns within scope of authority, escalating to management as needed.
• Notifies management or Security of any unusual events, accidents, missing items, or guest complaints.
• May taste menu items daily to effectively communicate flavors and ingredients to guests.
Qualifications
• Prior food service or hospitality experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of food and beverage service and preparation.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Food Handler’s Card within 30 days of hire.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on guest satisfaction.
• Ability to perform basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Must be able to read and understand simple instructions and short correspondence.
• Flexible availability, including holidays, weekends, and alternate shifts.
• Must uphold a clean and professional appearance.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Frequently lifts and carries food trays and dining items (up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently).
• Frequently reaches, grasps, stoops, and bends during service.
• Must maintain balance while maneuvering quickly in crowded or narrow spaces.
• Must be able to feel temperature variations in plates and food items.
• Must have visual acuity to ensure proper food presentation and assist guests with menu reading.
• Regular exposure to hot kitchens, loud environments, and strong food aromas.
• Occasionally works outdoors or in areas with extreme heat or humidity.
• May encounter slippery floors, sharp objects, and exposure to cleaning chemicals.
