ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Director of Residential Education
JOB PURPOSE:
The position will serve as the Assistant Director of the Department, focusing on the operational excellence of the office. The Assistant Director will manage the housing operations components of the office, including housing selection, move-in and move-out, health and safety inspections, and damage assessments.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
General Tasks and Duties:
- Serve as a senior leader in the Department of Residential Education and work in concert with the Director to develop and implement the mission and goals of the department.
- Coordinates housing and operations for 1500 students in four residential facilities, including traditional residence halls and suites.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee all housing services functions, including room selection, room change processes, room consolidation, damage billing, vandalism tracking, key audit/management, ID card access requests, room swaps, and room buyouts throughout the academic year.
- Oversee the meal plan assignment and change process while working collaboratively with Dining Services
- Develop marketing and communication materials and strategies for residential students, parents/guardians, etc.
- Maintain occupancy statistics, early arrival processes, and the department website.
- Oversee opening and closing of the residence halls.
- Provide operational support to the college’s summer conferences and external relations programs.
- Indirectly supervise all Residential Education Staff, including the Administrative Assistant, Graduate Residential Coordinators, and Resident Assistants.
- Liaise with maintenance and housekeeping staff to address relevant concerns in the residence halls.
- Serve on the supervisor-on-call duty rotation and respond to emergency situations.
- Serve in the absence of the Director.
- Manage relationships with auxiliary services as contractors, including laundry, micro-fridge contract, and storage company.
- Coordinate fire drills in the residence halls (2 per term).
- Organize and oversee the implementation of two Health and Safety Inspections in the residence halls per semester.
- Serve as a level one conduct officer
- Serve as a member of the Housing Accommodations Committee and the Greek Housing Committee.
- Liaise with Bursar and Financial Aid to ensure student billing is accurate.
- Support college-wide initiatives and programs, including Wagner Weekend, Commencement, the Pub, Senior Week, and other Campus Life events and functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 1-2 years of experience in Residential Life and/or housing operations and/or student affairs
- Commitment to student growth, student development, and putting students first.
- Willingness to work with flexibility and creativity.
- Detail-oriented.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree
- Experience managing housing operations
- Experience managing multiple competing priorities
- Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and eRezLife
