Applies administrative assistant expertise to perform a full range of clerical, secretarial and general administrative support functions at varying levels of complexity. Tasks may include answering telephones and providing related follow-through; request for patient test results including critical values, processing requests for pathology consultations; developing documents and preparing various reports involving the use of software features such as spreadsheets, charts and tables; organizing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures; composing meeting minutes; processing standard and electronic mail; processing a large volume of faxing, scanning, and mailing requests; maintaining directories, standard and electronic records and appropriate record-keeping; troubleshooting office technology problems; and performing other general office support activities. Demonstrates initiative, proficiency and good judgment to optimize the time of those supported
Education:
1. High School graduate or equivalent.
Experience:
1. Three years full-time recent experience as a secretary or in a clerical support position.
2. Previous experience with computer office systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is preferred.
3. Previous experience in a position which included responsibility for the oversight of clerical staff functions is preferred.
4. Experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1. Knowledge of Medical Terminology, especially Pathology terminology.
2. Must be able to communicate with all levels of personnel, patients, visitors and community members.
3. Conducts business in a professional and cordial manner that upholds the integrity and reputation of Mount Nittany Medical Center.
4. Knowledge of human resource laws and regulations as they relate to the management of staff.
License/Certification/Registration:
1. None required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives minimal supervision from the Administrative Director, Pathology and the lab supervisors.
SUPERVISION GIVEN
Serves as a lead employee to the Pathology clerical staff.
